GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Keep oil in your lamp—I am coming, and I desire to find you ready and burning with love.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 25:1-13
Jesus told his disciples this parable:
“The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins
who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps,
brought no oil with them,
but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.
Since the bridegroom was long delayed,
they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
At midnight, there was a cry,
‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.
The foolish ones said to the wise,
‘Give us some of your oil,
for our lamps are going out.’
But the wise ones replied,
‘No, for there may not be enough for us and you.
Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’
While they went off to buy it,
the bridegroom came
and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him.
Then the door was locked.
Afterwards the other virgins came and said,
‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us!’
But he said in reply,
‘Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.’
Therefore, stay awake,
for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

GOING DEEPER
The Bridegroom is delayed, yet the only oil that will matter is the oil we carry ourselves.
What small, steady practices are keeping the lamp of your heart burning—or slowly going out—while we wait?
In first-century Jewish weddings the bridesmaids’ lamps were not optional decoration. They were the expected sign of honor and readiness. The oil was personal; it could not be borrowed at the last moment. Jesus presses this detail so that we feel the weight: faith without the living oil of charity eventually flickers and fails.
We all fall asleep. The wise and the foolish alike grew drowsy. The difference was not that some never tired; it was that some had prepared while they were still awake. The oil of prayer, of daily conversion, of concrete acts of love cannot be transferred in a crisis. It must be stored beforehand.
Saint Augustine, whose memorial we keep today, knew this from the inside. His restless heart searched for years among the philosophies and pleasures of the world. Only when grace finally flooded him did he discover that the oil he needed had always been available—yet he had to receive it and keep it burning. His famous prayer, “You have made us for Yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in You,” is the cry of a man who finally filled his lamp.
In the domestic church the same truth applies. We cannot lend our children the oil of a living relationship with Christ at the moment of crisis. We can only help them fill their own flasks day by day—through shared prayer, honest repentance, patient love, and the quiet example of parents who keep their own lamps trimmed.
The door will one day close. The Bridegroom will come. Blessed are those who are found ready—not perfect, not never tired, but carrying the oil of charity that only love can produce.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by filling your own lamp today so that your household may enter the feast together.
“Before his Ascension Christ affirmed that the hour had not yet come for the glorious establishment of the messianic kingdom awaited by Israel. … This is the time of the Spirit and of witness, of the waiting and of the watching.” (CCC 672)

In My Heart: Where have I been running on the fumes of past faith instead of keeping fresh oil of charity and prayer?

In My World: Whom am I tempted to leave without oil, assuming someone else will supply what only personal love can give?

Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Share one way each person can keep a little extra “oil” ready this week. Then pray over each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
Choose one concrete act of charity or one extra moment of prayer today that will add oil to your lamp while the Bridegroom still delays.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
