GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
My presence overshadows every fear—nothing is impossible for Me.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 1:26–38
The angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom there will be no end.”
But Mary said to the angel,
“How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

GOING DEEPER
The God Who Draws Near in Our Poverty
Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
On this feast we remember another moment when heaven stooped low—this time not to a hidden room in Nazareth, but to a hillside near Mexico City in 1531. Mary appeared not to an elite scholar or noble, but to San Juan Diego, a humble Indigenous man carrying the weight of poverty, cultural upheaval, and personal sorrow. To him she said: “Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection?”
In both Nazareth and Guadalupe, the pattern is the same: God seeks the lowly, speaks into fear, and transforms the impossible into the beginning of salvation. When Gabriel greets Mary as “full of grace”—kecharitōmenē—he reveals her identity already shaped by God’s love. When she asks, “How can this be?”, the answer is the same one given at Guadalupe: The Holy Spirit will overshadow you.
The word episkiazō evokes the cloud of God’s presence overshadowing the Ark of the Covenant. Mary becomes the new Ark, the living temple, the one in whom God dwells. And at Guadalupe, Mary becomes the mother who gathers a divided people into one family under her mantle.
This is exactly what families today need. In a world fractured by division, shame, fear, and relentless pressure, the Mother of God comes close. She speaks the same words the angel spoke: “Do not be afraid.” She points not to herself but to Jesus—the One whose presence heals, unifies, and restores.
Mary’s yes changed history. Juan Diego’s yes ignited a continent-wide conversion. Your yes—spoken in your home, in your marriage, in your parenting, in your wounds—can open space for the Holy Spirit to overshadow your family with healing and reconciliation.
Parents, pray over your spouse and your children by name today. Ask the Holy Spirit to overshadow your home with peace, courage, purity, and mission. Ask Our Lady of Guadalupe to gather your family beneath her mantle, uniting hearts and lifting burdens.
“Mary’s motherhood extends to all, whom she brings to her Son, in whom the whole human family is united.” (CCC 963)
