INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 6:19-23
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
But store up treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
“The lamp of the body is the eye.
If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness.
And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Whatever captures our attention eventually captures our hearts.
What occupies your thoughts most often these days? What does that reveal about where your treasure truly lies?
Jesus understands something about the human heart that remains as true today as it was two thousand years ago: we become attached to whatever we value most. That is why He speaks so directly about treasure. The issue is not possessions themselves. The issue is whether our possessions begin to possess us.
Earthly treasures are not necessarily bad. Careers, homes, accomplishments, financial security, hobbies, and even relationships can all be genuine blessings. Yet every earthly treasure shares a common limitation: it is temporary. Markets fluctuate. Health declines. Possessions wear out. Circumstances change. Jesus invites us to invest our deepest hopes in something that cannot be taken away.
The phrase “where your treasure is, there also will your heart be” reveals a profound spiritual principle. Our hearts follow our investments. What we spend our time thinking about, talking about, worrying about, pursuing, and protecting gradually shapes who we become. The direction of our attention becomes the direction of our lives.
Jesus then shifts to the image of the eye as the lamp of the body. In biblical language, a “sound” eye refers to a person whose vision is clear, focused, and rightly ordered. A bad eye sees reality through distortion. What we choose to focus upon affects our entire spiritual outlook. Gratitude or complaint. Faith or fear. Generosity or selfishness. Purity or compromise. The lens matters.
This teaching is especially relevant in our age of constant distraction. Never before have so many voices competed for our attention. Advertisers, social media, news cycles, entertainment, and endless notifications continually attempt to shape our desires. Jesus gently asks: What is forming your heart? What are you allowing into your mind and soul each day?
The answer often becomes visible within family life. Homes flourish when families intentionally focus on what matters most: faith, relationships, service, gratitude, and God’s presence. Build saint-forming homes by helping one another keep eternal priorities at the center. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. Let your family become a place where hearts are trained to seek treasures that last forever.
The saints understood that heavenly treasure is not abstract. Every act of faith, every sacrifice made in love, every prayer offered, every soul encouraged, every moment of forgiveness, and every step toward holiness becomes an investment in eternity. Those treasures can never be lost.
“The desire for true happiness frees man from his immoderate attachment to the goods of this world.” (CCC 2548)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What am I most focused upon right now, and what does that reveal about my priorities?
In My Home: What practical change could help our family focus more intentionally on eternal treasures?
In My World: How can I invest more of my time, talent, and resources in what truly lasts?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share something you once thought was very important but later realized was not nearly as valuable as you imagined.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask God to help them recognize what truly matters, grow in wisdom, reject distractions that pull them away from Him, and seek treasures that endure forever.
Daily Challenge: Spend ten minutes today investing in an eternal treasure through prayer, encouragement, service, or Scripture.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
