INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 8:1-4
When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said,
“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.”
He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,
“I will do it. Be made clean.”
His leprosy was cleansed immediately.
Then Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one,
but go show yourself to the priest,
and offer the gift that Moses prescribed;
that will be proof for them.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Healing begins when we bring our wounds honestly to Jesus.
What part of your life most needs Christ’s healing touch today?
The leper in today’s Gospel possessed something many of us struggle to find: courageous honesty. He did not pretend everything was fine. He did not hide his condition. He did not minimize his need. He approached Jesus and placed his wound directly before Him.
To appreciate the power of this moment, we must understand the reality of leprosy in the ancient world. The disease carried not only physical suffering but social isolation. Lepers were often separated from family, excluded from community life, and regarded as unclean. Their wounds affected every dimension of life. Yet this man risks everything to approach Jesus.
Notice his words: “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” There is remarkable faith here. He does not question Christ’s power. He questions only whether Jesus desires to help him. Many people today struggle with the same uncertainty. We believe God can act. We are less certain that He wants to act in our lives personally.
Jesus answers immediately. “I will do it. Be made clean.” Then comes one of the most beautiful details in the Gospel: Jesus stretches out His hand and touches him. In a culture where others avoided lepers, Jesus moves toward him. Before healing the disease, He restores human dignity through compassionate presence.
The same Lord continues to act this way today. He is not repelled by our wounds, sins, fears, addictions, regrets, failures, disappointments, or brokenness. The places we most want to hide are often the very places where He most desires to bring healing. Nothing is beyond His reach.
Of course, not every healing occurs immediately or in the way we expect. Sometimes Christ heals physically. Sometimes emotionally. Sometimes spiritually. Sometimes He transforms circumstances. Sometimes He transforms us within them. Yet His desire to draw near never changes.
This Gospel speaks powerfully to family life. Every family carries wounds—misunderstandings, fears, struggles, disappointments, and imperfections. Build saint-forming homes by creating an atmosphere where people can bring their struggles into the light rather than hide them in shame. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. Let your home become a place where people encounter the healing mercy of Christ through your love, encouragement, and prayer.
The leper’s story reminds us that healing begins with a simple act of trust: bringing our wounds to Jesus and believing He desires our good.
“There is no offense, however serious, that the Church cannot forgive. There is no one, however wicked and guilty, who may not confidently hope for forgiveness.” (CCC 982)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What wound, fear, struggle, or burden do I most need to place before Jesus?
In My Home: How can our family become a place of greater healing, openness, and compassion?
In My World: Who around me may need encouragement, understanding, or Christ’s healing love today?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share a time when someone showed you compassion during a difficult season.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask Jesus to heal every wound, strengthen every weakness, and deepen their trust in His love. Pray that they reject shame, receive God’s mercy, and become instruments of healing for others.
Daily Challenge: Bring one specific wound, burden, or struggle to Jesus in prayer today and entrust it fully to Him.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
