GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I have chosen you and called you My friend—love as I love and bear fruit that will remain.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 15:12-17
Jesus said to his disciples:
“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves,
because a slave does not know what his master is doing.
I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Chosen friends are called to cruciform love.
Do you define love by comfort—or by the Cross?
Jesus does not leave love vague. He defines it decisively: “Love one another as I love you.” And how has He loved? “To lay down one’s life.” The Greek word agapaō here is not emotional affection—it is self-giving, sacrificial, total. This is not love that feels good—it is love that gives fully.
And then He elevates the relationship: “I have called you friends.” In the ancient world, a “friend” of the king was one entrusted with the king’s heart, his plans, his confidence. Jesus is not merely commanding from a distance—He is inviting us into intimacy. But that intimacy is inseparable from obedience. “You are my friends if you do what I command you.”
This cuts through a modern distortion. We often want relationship without responsibility, closeness without cost. But Jesus reveals that true friendship with Him is lived through faithful action. Friendship with Christ is confirmed in concrete choices.
Then comes one of the most identity-shaping truths: “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you.” Before your success, before your failures, before your striving—you were chosen. The Greek eklegomai implies deliberate selection. You are not accidental. You are appointed.
And for what purpose? “To go and bear fruit that will remain.” Not temporary impact. Not fleeting success. Eternal fruit—lives changed, love lived, truth embodied. This is the mission given to every disciple—and it begins in the home.
Our families are the first place where this love must be lived. Laying down our lives may not mean dramatic sacrifice—but it does mean daily dying to self: patience when tired, forgiveness when hurt, presence when distracted. These are the seeds of lasting fruit.
And notice the promise attached: “Whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.” When we live aligned with His love and mission, our prayers become powerful. Not because we control outcomes, but because we cooperate with God’s will.
Today, live as one who is chosen. Reject the lie that you are insignificant or alone. You are a friend of Christ, called into His mission. Parents, lead with this identity. Love sacrificially. Speak truth boldly. Pray over your children by name. And let your home become a place where cruciform love forms saints and bears fruit that lasts forever.
“By giving up his own Son for our sins, God manifests that his plan for us is one of benevolent love, prior to any merit on our part.” (CCC 604)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Do I truly believe I am chosen and called by Jesus—and how does that shape my daily life?
In My Home: How can I more intentionally lay down my life in love for my family?
In My World: What lasting fruit is God calling me to bear through sacrificial love?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … share one way you can show sacrificial love to someone in the family today.
Then pray together as a family. Lay hands on each person and pray over them by name:
“Jesus, You have chosen [Name] and called them Your friend. Fill them with Your love. Give them the strength to lay down their life for others. Free them from selfishness and fear. Help them love as You love and bear fruit that lasts.”
Pray for a deep awareness of being chosen by God, freedom from selfishness and isolation, strength to love sacrificially, and joy in living a life poured out for others.
Daily Challenge: Perform one intentional act of self-giving love today that costs you something.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
