INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:39-42
Jesus told his disciples a parable:
“Can a blind person guide a blind person?
Will not both fall into a pit?
No disciple is superior to the teacher;
but when fully trained,
every disciple will be like his teacher.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?
How can you say to your brother,
‘Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,’
when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye?
You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first;
then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.”

GOING DEEPER
The Kingdom is recognized not by those who can spot the smoke, but by those who enter it for someone else.
Where have we spent our strength inspecting others, instead of laying our lives down for them?
Jesus is not forbidding us to help a brother see. He is forbidding the blindness that pretends to be help. A blind guide does not become useful by speaking more loudly. Two fall into the pit together. The disciple’s hope is not superiority. It is training. “When fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher.” The Teacher we are being formed to resemble did not stand at a safe distance naming other people’s faults. He entered the danger that was ours.
On this date the nation remembers men and women who ran into burning buildings. They did not first calculate who was worthy. They did not pause to catalog the splinters of strangers. They spent themselves for people they would never know. That is not sentiment. It is a hard icon of the pattern of Christ: He does not save us by commentary. He saves us by self-gift. “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” The most powerful form of another’s redemption is not winning the argument. It is offering the self.
There are still times to “call people on.” Jesus says so. After the beam is removed, we will see clearly enough to help with the splinter—and we will be accountable if we refuse that duty when it matters: when a child is walking toward harm, when a spouse is being consumed, when a lie is destroying a soul. Silence is not always mercy. But the order is the Gospel’s order. First repentance. First humility. First the willingness to die to our need to be the one who is right. Then the courage to speak. Then, when love requires it, the courage to run toward the fire.
The domestic church is where this is learned while the buildings are not yet burning. Parents who confess before they correct. Children who watch a father or mother choose the good of the other at cost to themselves. Families who practice small self-sacrifices so that, when the hour comes, they already know the way of the Kingdom.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by removing one beam today—and then spending yourself for someone’s good.
“To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way: ‘Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another’s statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. And if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved.’” (CCC 2478)

In My Heart: What beam have I refused to notice because it would cost me the role of the one who sees?
In My Home: How can correction in our house begin with repentance rather than accusation?
In My World: Whom have I been eager to fix without first asking Jesus to train my sight?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Each person names one “beam” in themselves before naming any fault in another. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
Before you correct anyone today, ask the Lord to show you one fault of your own—and repent of it first.

We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
