GOSPEL | Luke 8:1-3
Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another,
preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God.
Accompanying him were the Twelve
and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities,
Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza,
Susanna, and many others
who provided for them out of their resources.

GOING DEEPER
Walking with Jesus, Giving for His Kingdom
This passage is short, but it is powerful. It reminds us that the mission of Jesus was not a solo act. He traveled from town to town, proclaiming the Kingdom, surrounded not just by the Twelve apostles, but also by faithful women whose lives He had transformed. Mary Magdalene, once tormented by seven demons, now walked in freedom. Joanna, from a household tied to Herod’s court, risked reputation and security to follow. Susanna and others gave of their resources, sustaining the work of Christ.
For first-century Jews, this scene would have been shocking. Rabbis did not gather women as disciples. Yet Jesus honors their dignity, welcomes their presence, and includes their contributions in the unfolding story of salvation. The Kingdom advances not only through preachers, but through those who walk, serve, and give.
The Gospel makes it clear: discipleship is not passive. It costs something. These women gave materially out of gratitude, because Jesus had given them new life. They didn’t just admire Him—they invested in Him. Their resources became part of the Kingdom’s expansion. And their names are forever remembered in Scripture.
Parents, this challenges us in two ways. First, do we walk with Jesus as a family—not just knowing about Him, but going with Him, bringing His presence into every town and village of our daily life: the school, the workplace, the neighborhood? Second, do we give for His Kingdom, not just financially but also our time, energy, and talents? Our children need to see us prioritize Christ tangibly. They need to see that He is not an add-on, but the center.
What if we showed our children that every resource—our home, our table, our schedules, our money—can be consecrated to Christ’s mission? What if we prayed over them by name, asking that they, too, use their gifts and resources to bring the Kingdom? That is how families become not just followers, but co-builders of the Kingdom.
“The disciple of Christ must not only keep the faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently bear witness to it, and spread it” (CCC 1816).
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Walking with Jesus: In what concrete ways can I bring Jesus with me into the “towns and villages” of my daily life?
Gratitude and Giving: How am I using my resources—time, money, energy—for the Kingdom of God?
Family Witness: What example am I giving my children about sacrificial giving and walking closely with Christ?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, each person share one gift or resource they have—something tangible or intangible—that they can give to Jesus this week.
Then pray over each person by name:
“Lord Jesus, thank You for the gifts You have given [Name]. Free them from every lie that says their contribution is too small. Teach them to walk with You daily, to use their resources joyfully for Your Kingdom, and to know the freedom and joy of discipleship.”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
