GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I am the Bridegroom in your midst. Do not patch My new life onto an old refusal to be made new.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 5:33-39
The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, “The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink.” Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.” And he also told them a parable. “No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak. Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined. Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The Bridegroom is not asking for a better patch. He is asking for a new skin.
Where have we used religious habit to avoid the joy—and the surrender—of actually becoming new?
The complaint sounds spiritual. They fast. They pray. Jesus’ disciples eat and drink. The issue is not discipline. It is presence. When the Bridegroom is at the table, the first duty is joy. Fasting will come—when He is taken away, when love must ache and wait and be purified. But they want the form of religion without recognizing the Face in front of them.
Then the parable cuts deeper. You cannot tear the new cloak to repair the old. You cannot pour fermenting wine into brittle skins. The old says, “The old is good.” That can be gratitude for tradition, or it can be a heart that will not stretch. New wine is alive. It expands. It will burst whatever refuses to yield.
The domestic church lives this tension every day. We can keep the old schedule, the old grudges, the old tone at the table, and still add a prayer on top like a patch. Jesus is not decorating our former life. He is making a wedding. That requires skins that can stretch: repentance that is real, mercy that actually changes the room, a household willing to be interrupted by joy.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by letting one old wineskin be replaced today.
“Jesus’ call to conversion and penance, like that of the prophets before him, does not aim first at outward works, ‘sackcloth and ashes,’ fasting and mortification, but at the conversion of the heart, interior conversion. Without this, such penances remain sterile and false; however, interior conversion urges expression in visible signs, gestures and works of penance.” (CCC 1430)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What “old wine” am I calling good so I do not have to become new?
In My Home: Where are we patching instead of allowing Christ to remake the pattern?
In My World: How can our joy in the Bridegroom become more visible than our mere religious routine?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Name one old habit that needs a new wineskin. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
Replace one patched reaction today with a new response of joy, mercy, or honest repentance.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
