I am the Bridegroom who makes all things new—let Me reshape your life, your home, and your love.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 5:33-39
The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,
"The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers,
and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same;
but yours eat and drink."
Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast
while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
then they will fast in those days."
And he also told them a parable.
"No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one.
Otherwise, he will tear the new
and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins,
and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new,
for he says, 'The old is good.'"

GOING DEEPER
The Bridegroom Brings New Wine
The Pharisees are baffled: why don’t Jesus’ disciples fast like the others? His answer shifts the entire frame. He calls Himself the Bridegroom—an audacious claim that echoes Israel’s Scriptures, where God Himself is described as the Bridegroom of His people (see Hosea, Isaiah). Jesus is not a teacher adding new rules. He is the fulfillment of covenant love. Where the Bridegroom is present, fasting gives way to feasting.
But Jesus pushes further. He speaks of new wine and fresh wineskins. The Greek word used for “new” (kainos) does not simply mean “recent.” It means new in kind—something radically transformed in quality. The life He brings is not a patch on our old habits or a topping-up of our own strength. It is the fermenting, overflowing life of the Spirit that cannot be contained by rigid old forms.
For His first-century hearers, the image was vivid. Old wineskins, stretched brittle with age, would burst if new, fermenting wine was poured in. Likewise, hearts clinging to the old way of religion-as-routine would crack under the pressure of God’s living Spirit. The Gospel requires not tinkering, but transformation.
Parents, this speaks directly to us. It is tempting to try to “patch” Jesus onto our family routines—fit Him in around sports schedules, technology habits, and the noise of culture. But Christ the Bridegroom does not want to be patched on. He wants to be the new wine at the center, reshaping the very fabric of our homes.
What would it look like if our families became fresh wineskins? It might mean reordering weekends around the Eucharist. It might mean fasting from screens to make space for joy-filled meals. It might mean parents humbly asking forgiveness, modeling the humility that creates room for grace. These are not just practices; they are ways of becoming new vessels of His Spirit.
And this is our call: not to cling to “the old is good” when it keeps us safe and stagnant, but to risk being stretched by grace. The Bridegroom is here. He wants to pour His life into us. Parents, begin today—pray over your children by name. Ask the Holy Spirit to make them fresh wineskins, supple to His touch, expansive for His joy.
“The entire Christian life bears the mark of the spousal love of Christ and the Church” (CCC 1617).
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Bridegroom’s Presence: Do I live as if Christ is truly present with me, or do I treat faith as just another obligation?
Fresh Wineskins: What old patterns or habits in my life or family need to be surrendered for the Spirit to make us new?
Family Feast: How can our home become less a place of routine survival and more a place of joy in Christ?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, each person share one “old wineskin”—a habit, fear, or routine—that they want Jesus to replace with something new.
Then pray over each person by name:
“Lord Jesus, our Bridegroom, pour out Your Spirit on [Name]. Free them from every old wineskin that cannot hold Your life. Fill them with new joy, new freedom, and new love. Stretch their heart to contain Your abundance, and make our family a living witness of Your presence.”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
