GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I am not distant or indifferent—I am your Good Shepherd who knows you, fights for you, and will never abandon you to the wolves
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 10:11-18
Jesus said:
“I am the good shepherd.
A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A hired man, who is not a shepherd
and whose sheep are not his own,
sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away,
and the wolf catches and scatters them.
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd,
and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.
These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice,
and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
This is why the Father loves me,
because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own.
I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.
This command I have received from my Father.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The voice you follow will determine the life you live.
Whose voice are you actually listening to right now—Jesus the Shepherd, or the hired voices of fear, comfort, and culture?
Jesus draws a stark contrast: the Good Shepherd versus the hired hand. The Greek word He uses for “good” is kalos—beautiful, noble, worthy of devotion. He is not merely functional; He is profoundly compelling. He does not manage sheep—He gives Himself for them.
And here is the visceral reality His listeners would have immediately understood: at night, shepherds would often lie across the opening of the sheepfold, literally becoming the gate. To reach the sheep, the wolf had to go through the shepherd. Jesus is not watching from a distance—He is the barrier between you and destruction.
This is why the hired man runs. There is no love, only labor. No covenant, only compensation. And how often do we drift into that same posture—checking boxes, managing responsibilities, but retreating when sacrifice is required? “Sacrificial shepherds stay when the shadows stretch.” That is the difference.
Jesus then elevates the relationship beyond anything expected: “I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me…” This is Trinitarian intimacy. The same knowing that exists within God Himself is the relationship offered to you. Our homes are meant to echo this reality—places where His voice is known, trusted, and followed.
In first-century practice, shepherds didn’t drive sheep—they called them. The sheep followed because they recognized the voice. This reframes everything for us as parents. Our children will not ultimately follow our rules—they will follow the voice they trust. Are we helping them recognize the voice of Jesus in our home?
When pressure hits—fatigue, finances, friction in marriage—the question becomes clear: do we stand or scatter? Do we lay down our lives in love, or preserve ourselves in fear? The Good Shepherd shows us that true authority is revealed in sacrificial love, not control.
Today, reject every false shepherd. Turn down the noise. Listen for His voice. And then live it—clearly, courageously, concretely. Parents, this is your mission: build homes where the Shepherd’s voice is unmistakable. Pray over your children by name. Lay down your life in love. And trust that what you surrender in Christ, He will raise into glory.
“Christ is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. The Church is the flock of which he is the shepherd.” (CCC 754)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What voice most often shapes my thoughts and decisions—Jesus, or something else?
In My Home: How can we make our home a place where the voice of Jesus is clearly heard and followed?
In My World: Where is Jesus calling me to lay down my life in love rather than protect my own comfort?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … share one voice you hear regularly (fear, pressure, expectations, etc.) and how it affects you.
Then pray together as a family. One by one, lay hands on each person and pray over them by name:
“Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd. Call [Name] by name today. Let them hear Your voice above every lie. Protect them from the enemy. Give them strength to follow You with courage. Fill them with Your peace, Your truth, and Your joy.”
Pray especially for personal knowledge of God’s love, freedom from every lie of the Enemy, strength to overcome temptation, and joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge: Before responding to any stressful moment today, pause and ask: “What is the voice of the Good Shepherd saying right now?”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
