GOD'S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I am your greatest treasure. Give Me your “one thing,” and I will give you My everything.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 19:16–22
A young man approached Jesus and said,
“Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?”
He answered him, “Why do you ask me about the good?
There is only One who is good.
If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
He asked him, “Which ones?”
And Jesus replied, “You shall not kill;
you shall not commit adultery;
you shall not steal;
you shall not bear false witness;
honor your father and your mother;
and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
The young man said to him,
“All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?”
Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go,
sell what you have and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven.
Then come, follow me.”
When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad,
for he had many possessions.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The One Thing Jesus Touches
The question is noble; the answer is surgical. Jesus first names the commandments—mostly from the second table of the Decalogue—then puts His finger on the man’s “one thing.” The invitation to “be perfect” uses the Greek teleios: not “flawless,” but whole, complete, mature. Jesus isn’t merely subtracting wealth; He’s inviting the man into wholeness that only comes by attachment to Him.
Matthew says “he had many possessions.” The word often used for holdings (ktēmata) carries the sense of assets that own you. When the man “went away sad,” the verb signals deep grief—because the price exposed his true master. Jesus promises “treasure in heaven,” not as pious metaphor, but as a real transfer of trust: from what we control to the One who alone is good.
Context matters: in that culture, wealth often signaled God’s favor. Jesus upends the assumption. Eternal life isn’t earned by stacking up good deeds or good things, but by surrender. The path is the same for us: commandments kept, yes—but then a decisive “follow Me” that dethrones every rival.
Parents, bring this home. Identify the “one thing” competing for first love—comfort, screens, sports, reputation, control—and name it. In the Name of Jesus, pray over your spouse and children. Renounce any attachment that dulls desire for God, and ask the Holy Spirit to make your home a place where Christ is visibly first.
“Jesus enjoins his disciples to prefer him to everything and everyone… The precept of detachment from riches is obligatory for entrance into the Kingdom of heaven.” (CCC 2544)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
The One Thing: What would be hardest for you to surrender if Jesus asked today—money, control, approval, comfort?
Treasure Transfer: What concrete step can you take this week to move treasure from earth to heaven (almsgiving, hidden service, time with the poor)?
Follow Me—Today: Where is Jesus saying “Come, follow Me” in a way that requires more than rule-keeping—real relationship and risk?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and place a simple item on the table that represents “possession” (a wallet, phone, ball, grade report). Each person name one attachment they want Jesus to rule over. Then lay hands and pray aloud, one by one:
“Lord Jesus, You are our greatest treasure. Over [name], we renounce anything that competes with Your love. Give [him/her] teleios—a whole heart—free to follow You. Come, Holy Spirit!”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
