INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 14:22-36
Jesus made the disciples get into a boat
and precede him to the other side of the sea,
while he dismissed the crowds.
After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
When it was evening he was there alone.
Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore,
was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.
During the fourth watch of the night,
he came toward them, walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified.
“It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear.
At once Jesus spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter said to him in reply,
“Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened;
and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him,
and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying,
“Truly, you are the Son of God.”
After making the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret.
When the men of that place recognized him,
they sent word to all the surrounding country.
People brought to him all those who were sick
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak,
and as many as touched it were healed.

GOING DEEPER
When the winds rise, Jesus calls us not to deny the storm but to fix our eyes on the One who comes through it.
What storm has captured our attention so completely that we have stopped looking toward Jesus?
Jesus sends the disciples into the boat, and then He goes alone up the mountain to pray. The storm does not mean they have missed God’s will; they are precisely where Jesus directed them to be. This matters when our own family life feels battered by conflict, uncertainty, illness, finances, or decisions we did not choose. Obedience does not always spare us the waves.
The “fourth watch of the night” was the darkest stretch before dawn, roughly between three and six in the morning. The disciples have fought the wind for hours when Jesus comes toward them. He is not late, detached, or unaware. The Lord sees the boat long before the boat sees Him.
Then Jesus says words loaded with divine meaning: “It is I.” In Greek, ego eimi—“I am.” The One who walks upon the sea is not merely a teacher offering advice from the shore. He is the Lord, sovereign over the waters of chaos, present within the very thing that terrifies His disciples.
Peter’s brief walk on the water is not a story about superhuman confidence. It is a story about what becomes possible when a person responds to the word of Jesus: “Come.” Peter begins to sink not because the wind suddenly becomes stronger, but because his attention shifts. Fear grows when the storm becomes our focus; faith grows when Christ becomes our focus.
This is a vital lesson for the domestic church. We do not help our children by pretending storms are not real. We help them by teaching them what to do when storms come: pray, speak honestly, call upon Jesus, receive the sacraments, and reach for one another. A family that cries, “Lord, save me!” is never a family without hope.
Jesus immediately stretches out His hand. He does not shame Peter for calling out; He catches him. Our failures, fears, and moments of doubt are not the end of our story when we turn toward Christ. The storm may be loud, but the Savior is closer. The waves can roar; the Word still reigns.
Lift your eyes. Build saint-forming homes, pray over your children by name, and act in the power of the Holy Spirit so that, in every storm, your family may hear Christ say: “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
“Very often in the Gospels people address Jesus as ‘Lord’. This title testifies to the respect and trust of those who approach him for help and healing. At the prompting of the Holy Spirit, ‘Lord’ expresses the recognition of the divine mystery of Jesus. In the encounter with the risen Jesus, this title becomes adoration: ‘My Lord and my God!’ It thus takes on a connotation of love and affection that remains proper to the Christian tradition: ‘It is the Lord!’” (CCC, 448)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What fear is pulling my attention away from the presence and power of Jesus?
In My Home: How can we help one another turn first to prayer rather than panic when difficulties arise?
In My World: Who needs to be reminded through my words or actions that Christ is near in their storm?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name one worry or difficulty they want to place directly into the hands of Jesus.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask the Father to let them know personally that they are loved, to free them from the Enemy’s lies of fear and abandonment, to strengthen them against temptation, and to give them joyful courage to live the Gospel in every circumstance. Ask the Holy Spirit to make your family quick to call upon Jesus and steady in trust.
Daily Challenge: When a worry rises today, pause immediately and pray aloud: “Lord Jesus, save me. I trust You.”

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
