GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You are not defined by what you have but by Whose you are. I made you for eternal treasure that no one can take away.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 12:13-21
Someone in the crowd said to Jesus,
“Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”
He replied to him,
“Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
Then he said to the crowd,
“Take care to guard against all greed,
for though one may be rich,
one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
Then he told them a parable.
“There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
He asked himself, ‘What shall I do,
for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
And he said, ‘This is what I shall do:
I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones.
There I shall store all my grain and other goods
and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you,
you have so many good things stored up for many years,
rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’
But God said to him,
‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you;
and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself
but is not rich in what matters to God.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Greed isn’t about having much—it’s about trusting too little.
Someone interrupts Jesus with what seems like a practical concern: “Tell my brother to share the inheritance.” But beneath the surface lies something deeper than a family dispute—it’s the illusion that fulfillment can be secured through fairness or possession. Jesus refuses to arbitrate the details. Instead, He targets the disease: “Take care to guard against all greed.”
The Greek word for greed, pleonexia, literally means “the desire for more.” It’s not just about wealth—it’s about the restless hunger to control, to secure life on our own terms. The man in Jesus’ parable builds bigger barns not because he needs more space, but because he believes his comfort guarantees his worth. He’s not condemned for his success, but for his delusion: that what he owns can save him.
Then comes the piercing line—“This night your life will be demanded of you.” The verb apaitousin suggests not random death but divine accounting. The man’s life was never his to hoard. The great reversal of the Gospel is this: the more we try to possess life, the more it slips away; the more we give it, the richer we become.
In family life, this temptation is everywhere. We measure success in square footage, screens, savings, and schedules—then wonder why we feel empty. Parents exhaust themselves storing up experiences for their children but neglect to store up grace with them. Jesus calls us back to simplicity, to relationships that outlast possessions, to living richly in what matters to God: faith, love, mercy, and eternal purpose.
Holiness isn’t found in bigger barns—it’s in shared bread. True wealth is not accumulation but communion. Parents, tonight pray over your children by name, asking Jesus to free your family from the anxieties of “more,” to fill your home with contentment, gratitude, and a desire for the treasure that never fades.
“Detachment from riches is necessary for entering the Kingdom of heaven.” (CCC 2556)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
True Wealth: What “barns” are you building—things or habits—that may be distracting you from God’s call?
Contentment in Christ: How might practicing gratitude today free you from comparison or envy?
Family Treasure: What steps can your family take to be “rich in what matters to God”?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, name one “earthly treasure” you tend to cling to—an item, plan, or habit—and one “heavenly treasure” you want to grow in. Place these before the Lord in prayer.
Then pray over one another by name: Lord Jesus, free [Name] from the illusion of control. Fill [Name] with joy in Your presence, trust in Your providence, and the peace of knowing that true treasure is found in You alone.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
