GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Stretch out your hand to Me. I restore what is withered, and I am not afraid to do good on the day that belongs to Me.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:6-11
On a certain sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught,
and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely
to see if he would cure on the sabbath
so that they might discover a reason to accuse him.
But he realized their intentions
and said to the man with the withered hand,
“Come up and stand before us.”
And he rose and stood there.
Then Jesus said to them,
“I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath
rather than to do evil,
to save life rather than to destroy it?”
Looking around at them all, he then said to him,
“Stretch out your hand.”
He did so and his hand was restored.
But they became enraged
and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Jesus will not leave a withered hand unaddressed in order to keep the watchers comfortable.
Where have we chosen the safety of silence over the risk of doing good?
The man is already there. The withered hand is visible. The scribes and Pharisees are not watching for a miracle; they are watching for a charge. Jesus sees both the need and the trap. He does not heal in secret. He calls the man into the center: “Come up and stand before us.” Mercy is made public. The question He asks is the question that judges every religious heart: is it lawful to do good, or to do nothing while life remains diminished?
Then the command is simple: “Stretch out your hand.” The man must participate. Restoration asks for trust. The hand that could not work is made whole, and the men who claimed to guard the sabbath become enraged. They would rather keep their accusation than celebrate a life restored.
The domestic church faces the same choice in quieter rooms. A marriage can grow withered. A child’s confidence can shrink. A silence can settle over a table. We can watch closely and do nothing, protecting our comfort or our pride. Or we can let Jesus call the need into the open and stretch out what has stopped working—our apology, our blessing, our time, our courage.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by doing the good that restores, even when someone is watching for a reason to object.
“The Gospel reports many incidents when Jesus was accused of violating the sabbath law. But Jesus never fails to respect the holiness of this day. He gives this law its authentic and authoritative interpretation: ‘The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.’ With compassion, Christ declares the sabbath for doing good rather than harm, for saving life rather than killing.” (CCC 2173)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What withered place in me is Jesus asking me to stretch out toward Him?
In My Home: Where have we been watching a need closely without moving to restore it?
In My World: What good am I postponing because I fear how it will be received?

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
