You are anointed to bring My mercy where the world is hurting most.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 9:35–10:1, 5a, 6–8
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness.
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.”
Then he summoned his Twelve disciples
and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out
and to cure every disease and every illness.
Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus,
“Go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
Cure the sick, raise the dead,
cleanse lepers, drive out demons.
Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

GOING DEEPER
You Have Been Given Authority to Heal
Jesus looks at the crowds and His heart is “moved with pity”—the same deep verb splanchnizomai we encountered earlier this week. This compassion is not passive emotion but divine movement. God’s response to human suffering is not distance but mission. And His mission is not solitary. It is shared.
The Gospel unfolds a stunning sequence: Jesus sees → Jesus feels → Jesus sends. Compassion becomes commissioning. His disciples are not distant observers but active partners in His work of healing and restoration. He does not merely encourage them—He gives them authority. The Greek word is exousia, the same authority Jesus Himself uses. They share in His power to confront darkness and restore the broken.
This is not metaphor. It is inheritance.
Today’s memorial of Saint Nicholas highlights this truth beautifully. Behind the legends of generosity is a bishop who defended the faith with courage, cared for the poor sacrificially, confronted injustice boldly, and lived the mission Jesus entrusts in today’s Gospel. Nicholas understood that receiving from Christ means being sent with Christ.
Here lies a profound paradox of discipleship:
You were never meant to be a spectator in the Kingdom—you are an instrument of its breakthrough.
In the domestic church, this mission is lived first at home. Parents are the first shepherds of their children. The wounds in your family, the fears in your spouse, the discouragement in your children—Jesus sees them, feels compassion for them, and sends you with His authority to bring healing. Not by your own strength, but by the power of the Spirit resting upon you.
“Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” These words define Christian family life. Everything God pours into your home—grace, mercy, forgiveness, truth—is meant to flow outward. Families become missionary when they see themselves not as consumers of grace but as channels of it.
Parents, receive this commissioning. Pray over your spouse and children by name, asking the Holy Spirit to give them courage, authority, compassion, and a love that heals. Your home is not merely a refuge—it is a training ground for mission, a place where God is forming laborers for the abundant harvest.
“By Baptism, they share in the priesthood of Christ, in His prophetic and royal mission.” (CCC 1270)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
YOUR HARVEST FIELD
Who in your life or family is Jesus inviting you to see with His compassion today?
AUTHORITY GIVEN
Where do you sense Jesus calling you to exercise His authority for healing or encouragement?
MISSION AT HOME
How can your family live the call to “give without cost” in a concrete, meaningful way this week?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share a place where you sense Jesus calling your family to be His healing presence—someone to love, forgive, encourage, or serve.
Then take a moment to pray over each person by name, asking the Holy Spirit to stir compassion, awaken courage, strengthen authority over spiritual attacks, and empower each heart for the mission Christ entrusts.
Daily Challenge: Do one simple act of mercy today—something that freely gives what God has freely given you.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
