INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 13:24–30
Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds.
“The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man
who sowed good seed in his field.
While everyone was asleep his enemy came
and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.
When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
The slaves of the householder came to him and said,
‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field?
Where have the weeds come from?’
He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’
His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds
you might uproot the wheat along with them.
Let them grow together until harvest;
then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
“First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning;
but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

Growing Through the Weeds
The first shock of this parable is that the weeds are not a mistake. They are intentional. An enemy has done this.
Jesus doesn't deny the reality of evil—He names it. But more profoundly, He calls for patience. His warning isn’t just about the enemy’s work—it’s about our tendency to want to “fix” things too quickly, to purify by force, to control outcomes in our timing.
But uprooting weeds too early risks destroying the wheat. That’s not compromise—it’s compassion. God is patient, not passive. He knows what He planted. And He knows the harvest will come.
The Greek word for “weeds” here is zizanion, a plant that closely resembles wheat in its early stages. This parable speaks to families, churches, even our own hearts. Sometimes, what looks like unfruitfulness or failure is actually just slow growth. Sometimes the “weeds” in others are still becoming wheat in disguise.
Parents, you’ve planted good seed. But maybe your child is struggling. Maybe your spouse’s heart feels distant. Maybe your own soul feels like a mixture of thorns and roots. Today, Jesus says: Let it grow. Stay faithful. Keep watering with love and truth. Don’t try to yank up what only the Spirit can transform.
And today, pray over your family with fresh confidence. Speak this aloud: “Jesus, You planted good seed in [name]. We trust You. We renounce fear, frustration, and control. We choose to love with patience. Bring forth the harvest in Your time.”
"God allows the wheat and weeds to grow together so that His mercy may be made manifest. His patience is not approval—it is an invitation to repentance." (CCC 827, 1848)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Recognizing the Field: Where do I see both wheat and weeds in my heart, my home, or my relationships?
Control vs. Trust: Am I trying to uproot what only God can heal or separate in time?
Spiritual Patience: What would it look like to trust God's timeline in one particular relationship today?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, each share something you’ve been frustrated about—maybe a situation, a person, or even yourself. Then, pray this aloud as a family:
“Jesus, You are the Lord of the harvest. We thank You for planting good seed in our family. Teach us to trust Your timing. Help us not to fear the weeds. Let Your Spirit water what You’ve planted in [name], and bring it to full fruit in Your perfect time.”

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
