INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 5:33-37
Jesus said to his disciples:
"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
But I say to you, do not swear at all;
not by heaven, for it is God's throne;
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;
nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Do not swear by your head,
for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'
Anything more is from the Evil One."
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Integrity is what happens when our words, our actions, and our hearts tell the same story.
Where in your life is God inviting you to become more honest, trustworthy, and transparent?
In today’s Gospel, Jesus addresses something far deeper than oath-taking. He is speaking about integrity. In His day, people often developed elaborate systems of promises, vows, and qualifications designed to create loopholes and avoid accountability. Jesus cuts through all of it with remarkable simplicity: “Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’”
The issue is not merely speech; it is character. A person of integrity does not need layers of qualifications, excuses, exaggerations, or manipulations to be believed. Their life itself becomes their credibility. Truthfulness is not something they occasionally practice. It is part of who they are.
The Greek root behind integrity carries the idea of wholeness or completeness. That insight is important because many people today feel fragmented. They present one version of themselves at work, another online, another at church, and another at home. Jesus invites us into a life of coherence, where our public and private selves increasingly become one.
This is especially challenging in a culture built on image management. We are often tempted to project success, hide weakness, soften uncomfortable truths, or tell people what they want to hear. Yet every compromise with truth weakens trust. Every act of honesty strengthens freedom. The truth may sometimes be costly, but deception is always more expensive.
Saint Anthony of Padua understood this well. Though remembered today as a miracle worker and preacher, his influence flowed largely from credibility. People listened because his life reflected his message. His words carried weight because they emerged from a heart seeking holiness rather than recognition. Truth spoken with humility possesses extraordinary power.
The domestic church is where integrity is most visibly tested and formed. Children learn honesty not merely from what parents teach but from what they observe. Build saint-forming homes by cultivating trustworthiness in small things. Keep your promises. Admit mistakes. Seek forgiveness quickly. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. Let your home become a place where truth is spoken with love, commitments are honored, and every “yes” and “no” reflects a heart surrendered to Christ.
“Men could not live with one another if there were not mutual confidence that they were being truthful to one another.” (CCC 2469)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Is there an area where I am tempted to hide, exaggerate, avoid, or manipulate the truth?
In My Home: How can our family grow in greater honesty, accountability, and trust?
In My World: What commitment have I made that God is calling me to honor more faithfully?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share a quality that makes someone trustworthy and a person you know who demonstrates that quality well.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask the Lord to strengthen their character, deepen their integrity, and help them become people whose words can be trusted. Pray that they reject every lie of the Enemy, grow in humility, and courageously live in the freedom of truth.
Daily Challenge: Follow through today on one commitment you have been tempted to postpone, avoid, or neglect.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
