GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I do not measure your worth by what you possess, but by the love and trust with which you give yourself to Me.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Mark 12:38-44
In the course of his teaching Jesus said,
“Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes
and accept greetings in the marketplaces,
seats of honor in synagogues,
and places of honor at banquets.
They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext,
recite lengthy prayers.
They will receive a very severe condemnation.”He sat down opposite the treasury
and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury.
Many rich people put in large sums.
A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them,
“Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more
than all the other contributors to the treasury.
For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth,
but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had,
her whole livelihood.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
God sees what the world overlooks and values what the world misunderstands.
Where in your life is God inviting you to stop measuring by appearances and start measuring by love?
Jesus begins with a warning. The scribes loved recognition, titles, status, and public honor. Outwardly they appeared impressive, yet many had lost sight of what mattered most. Their religion had become a performance. Jesus exposes a sobering truth: it is possible to look holy while remaining far from the heart of God.
Then, in a beautiful contrast, Jesus notices someone no one else sees. Amid wealthy donors contributing large sums, a poor widow quietly places two small coins into the treasury. The crowd likely overlooked her. The religious leaders certainly did. But Jesus sees her immediately.
What makes her gift extraordinary is not its monetary value but its spiritual value. The wealthy gave from abundance. She gave from dependence. They offered what they would not miss. She entrusted to God what she could not afford to lose. Heaven measures differently than earth. The economy of the Kingdom runs on trust, not transactions.
The Greek word often translated as “livelihood” literally refers to one’s whole life. Jesus is not merely praising generosity; He is praising surrender. The widow’s offering becomes a living symbol of discipleship itself. Love is measured less by how much we give and more by how much of ourselves accompanies the gift. Small sacrifices offered with great love become treasures in Heaven.
This Gospel speaks directly to family life. Parents often wonder whether their hidden sacrifices matter. The late-night conversations, prayers for struggling children, patient acts of service, financial sacrifices, forgiveness, encouragement, and daily faithfulness can seem unnoticed. Yet the Lord sees every one of them. Nothing offered in love is ever wasted. In God’s Kingdom, hidden holiness often bears the greatest fruit.
Today’s challenge is not primarily about money. It is about trust. The widow entrusted her future to God. We are invited to do the same. Build saint-forming homes by making daily acts of sacrificial love visible and celebrated. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call upon the Holy Spirit daily. Teach your family that greatness is not found in impressing others but in giving ourselves wholeheartedly to God and one another.
“Christ died out of love for us, while we were still ‘enemies.’ The Lord asks us to love as he does, even our enemies, to make ourselves the neighbor of those farthest away, and to love children and the poor as Christ himself.” (CCC 1825)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What am I holding back from God because I am afraid to trust Him completely?
In My Home: What hidden sacrifice made by a family member have I failed to notice or appreciate?
In My World: How can I practice quiet generosity without seeking recognition?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share a hidden act of love or sacrifice someone has made for you that you deeply appreciate.
Then pray over each person by name. Thank God for the gifts they bring to your family. Pray that they trust the Lord more deeply, reject every lie that their sacrifices go unnoticed, receive strength to persevere in goodness, and discover the joy that comes from giving themselves generously in love.
Daily Challenge: Perform one meaningful act of generosity today that no one else knows about.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
