INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 16:23b-28
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name;
ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
“I have told you this in figures of speech.
The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures
but I will tell you clearly about the Father.
On that day you will ask in my name,
and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you.
For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me
and have come to believe that I came from God.
I came from the Father and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Confident prayer flows from knowing you are deeply loved by the Father.
When you pray, do you approach God like a beloved child—or like someone trying to earn an audience?
Jesus opens an extraordinary door in this Gospel: “Whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” This is not a magical formula or blank check for selfish desires. In biblical thought, a “name” represented identity, authority, and mission. To ask in Jesus’ name means to pray in union with His heart, His will, and His life.
And notice the reason Jesus gives for this confidence: “The Father himself loves you.” Many people unconsciously imagine God as distant, irritated, or reluctantly attentive. But Jesus tears down that fear completely. The Father is not merely tolerating us because of Jesus—He genuinely loves us. Divine love is not borrowed affection; it is direct invitation.
This is why Jesus says, “Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.” Prayer is not meant to be mechanical duty—it is relational communion. God is not interested in transactional religion. He desires intimacy with His children.
Jesus also says the time is coming when He will speak “clearly” about the Father. The Greek word parrēsia implies openness, boldness, unveiled speech. Through Christ, the fog is lifted. God is not hiding His heart from us. The Cross becomes the full revelation of the Father’s love.
This matters deeply in family life. Many of us unknowingly pass on distorted images of God to our children—harshness without tenderness, rules without relationship, pressure without peace. But Jesus reveals a Father who desires closeness, trust, and joyful communion. Homes formed by prayer become homes formed by confidence in God’s love.
And what happens when we truly believe we are loved? Fear begins to lose its grip. We stop praying timidly. We stop performing spiritually for approval. We begin approaching God with honesty, trust, and expectancy. Secure children ask boldly because they know they are loved.
Jesus also reminds the disciples of the whole movement of salvation history: “I came from the Father… and now I am going back to the Father.” Christianity is not merely moral improvement—it is participation in the life and love of the Trinity. Jesus came to bring us home to the Father.
Today, pray differently. Stop approaching God like a stranger. Speak to Him like a beloved son or daughter. Parents, teach your children to pray with confidence, honesty, and trust. Pray over them by name, reminding them that the Father Himself loves them. And let your home become a place where prayer is not driven by fear, but by friendship and joyful expectation.
“Filial trust is tested - it proves itself - in tribulation. The principal difficulty concerns the prayer of petition, for oneself or for others in intercession.” (CCC 2734)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Do I truly believe that the Father personally loves me and desires to hear my prayers?
In My Home: How can we cultivate more confident, joyful, and relational prayer as a family?
In My World: Who around me needs encouragement to trust more deeply in the Father’s love?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … share one prayer intention you deeply want to place before God right now.
Then pray together as a family. Lay hands on each person and pray over them by name:
“Father, thank You for loving [Name] deeply and personally. Increase their trust in You. Teach them to pray boldly in the Name of Jesus. Remove fear, doubt, and discouragement. Fill them with peace, confidence, and complete joy in Your presence.”
Pray for deep trust in the Father’s love, freedom from fear and spiritual insecurity, strength to persevere in prayer, and joyful confidence in approaching God openly.
Daily Challenge: Spend five extra minutes in prayer today simply speaking honestly to the Father as His beloved child.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
