GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I have given you authority over the Enemy; let your deepest joy rest in belonging to heaven rather than in what you accomplish.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 10:17-24
GOSPEL | Luke 10:17-24
The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus,
“Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.”
Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
Behold, I have given you the power
‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions
and upon the full force of the enemy
and nothing will harm you.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you,
but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
At that very moment he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,
“I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows who the Son is except the Father,
and who the Father is except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”
Turning to the disciples in private he said,
“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
For I say to you,
many prophets and kings desired to see what you see,
but did not see it,
and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

GOING DEEPER
Jesus anchors our deepest joy in belonging to God and draws us into His own communion with the Father.
When your efforts produce little you can see, do you still experience yourself as someone deeply loved by God?
The disciples return exhilarated. They have witnessed evil yield before the name of Jesus, and their joy is understandable. Yet He gently redirects its foundation. Spiritual fruit matters, but their relationship with God reaches deeper than their effectiveness. We need that distinction. We can become so accustomed to measuring ourselves by results that even faith becomes another place to establish our worth. A fruitful day makes us feel close to God; a disappointing one leaves us wondering whether we matter.
Jesus directs them toward their names written in heaven. This image recalls the biblical understanding of a heavenly record identifying those who belong to God. It speaks personally: a name, a life, someone known. He calls His disciples to rejoice in that belonging while continuing faithfully in their mission. We, too, can receive our work within a relationship already offered through grace. Our fruitfulness flows from communion with Christ; it cannot replace that communion as the center of our lives.
Then the Gospel lets us witness something extraordinary: Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit and addresses His Father. His delight opens onto the intimate knowledge shared by Father and Son—and the Son’s willingness to reveal the Father to others. The disciples are being drawn into far more than a successful mission. They are receiving a share in the life from which the mission comes. This is the healing beneath our restless search for significance: to know God personally, receive His love, and allow that love to work through us.
The childlike can receive what self-sufficiency resists. Jesus’ words do not disparage learning; they expose the limits of a heart that believes it already possesses everything it needs. We can know religious language while remaining reluctant to be taught, forgiven, or helped. Childlike faith brings our actual selves before the Father, including the uncertainty we conceal behind competence. Belonging comes before boasting. Through Baptism we enter life in Christ; through the Eucharist and Reconciliation He nourishes and restores that communion as we learn to live it.
Our home is the domestic church, where the difference between belonging and performing becomes especially consequential. As parents, we celebrate achievement, but our children also need to know that a poor grade, a lost game, or an honest admission of failure does not diminish our love. Our spouses need attention that is not contingent upon how smoothly the household runs. We can communicate something of the Father’s heart when we listen without immediately evaluating, delight in a child’s presence, and remain tender toward one another during an unproductive or difficult season.
Build saint-forming homes where being loved is the secure foundation for growing in virtue and answering God’s call. Pray over your spouse and children by name, asking that each know the Father personally through Jesus Christ. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit: surrender the need to prove your worth, offer your responsibilities from a heart rooted in His love, and give your family concrete reasons to rejoice in belonging to Him.
“When we pray to the Father, we are in communion with him and with his Son, Jesus Christ.” (CCC 2781) IntraText
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What happens to my sense of being loved by God when I have nothing impressive to show for my efforts?
In My Home: How can I help my spouse or children experience my delight in them apart from anything they accomplish?
In My World: Where could I serve more freely if I stopped needing recognition to confirm my worth?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to share something they enjoy about another family member that has nothing to do with grades, success, appearance, or productivity.
Pray over each person by name: “Father, help [name] personally know the joy of being loved by You. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that their worth depends upon achievement or comparison. Strengthen them to overcome the temptation to seek approval at the expense of truth and goodness. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, and give them joyful courage to live the Gospel through humble service, honest effort, and loving attention to others. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Tell each person in your household one specific reason you are grateful for who they are.
