GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY

INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:1-5
While Jesus was going through a field of grain on a sabbath, his disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them. Some Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?” Jesus said to them in reply, “Have you not read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry? How he went into the house of God, took the bread of offering, which only the priests could lawfully eat, ate of it, and shared it with his companions?” Then he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.”

GOING DEEPER
The sabbath is not a fence around hunger. It is the Lord’s day for making people whole.
Where have we used “what is lawful” to avoid the mercy standing in our own field?
The scene is ordinary: walking, hunger, grain in the hand. The accusation is swift. The Pharisees see a violation. Jesus sees men who need to eat. He does not despise the sabbath. He claims it. David, when hungry, took the holy bread and shared it. Mercy was not the collapse of holiness. It was holiness serving life.
Then the sentence that rearranges the whole week: “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.” The day does not own Him. He owns the day. Every law of God is meant to lead to communion, not to police the hungry away from the Giver.
Saint Teresa of Calcutta, remembered this day, understood that. She kept a fierce love of the Eucharist and a fierce attention to the body in front of her. The Lord of the sabbath was the same Lord in the distressing disguise of the poor. A home can keep every religious appearance and still fail this test: when someone is hungry—for food, for kindness, for time, for a blessing—do we argue the rule, or do we share the bread?
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by letting the Lord of the sabbath set the tone of your rest and your mercy.
“The Gospel reports many incidents when Jesus was accused of violating the sabbath law. But Jesus never fails to respect the holiness of this day. He gives this law its authentic and authoritative interpretation: ‘The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.’ With compassion, Christ declares the sabbath for doing good rather than harm, for saving life rather than killing.” (CCC 2173)

In My Home: How can our Sunday and our rest actually feed the people God has given us?
In My World: Whom is the Lord of the sabbath asking us to share bread with this week?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Name one hunger—physical or spiritual—in your household. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
