Pay attention. I am being handed over for you.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 9:43b-45
While they were all amazed at his every deed,
Jesus said to his disciples,
“Pay attention to what I am telling you.
The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”
But they did not understand this saying;
its meaning was hidden from them
so that they should not understand it,
and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Amazement can fill a crowd and still miss the sentence that saves.
Beloved, have you been impressed by what Jesus does—and afraid to ask what His Cross will mean for you?
The people are stunned by “every deed.” Healings. Authority. The visible Kingdom. Into that applause Jesus does not add another wonder. He says, “Pay attention.” The Greek is almost physical: place these words into your ears. Then the dark verb of the Passion: the Son of Man is to be handed over—paradidosthai. It is the language of betrayal, of delivery, of a life placed into other hands. The disciples do not understand. Luke says the meaning was hidden. And then the most familiar line in many Christian homes: they were afraid to ask.
Fear of the question is not humility. It is self-protection. If we ask, we may have to follow. If we understand, we may have to be handed over in our own small ways—reputation, comfort, the need to stay amazed without being changed.
Saints Cosmas and Damian were physicians who would not separate healing from the Cross. They gave their skill, then their lives. The deeds were not the whole Gospel. The handing-over was.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by asking Jesus the question you have been afraid to ask—and staying for the answer.
“Jesus’ violent death was not the result of chance in an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances, but is part of the mystery of God’s plan, as St. Peter explains to the Jews of Jerusalem in his first sermon on Pentecost: ‘This Jesus [was] delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God.’ This Biblical language does not mean that those who handed him over were merely passive players in a scenario written in advance by God.” (CCC 599)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What word of Jesus have I left unasked because I suspected it would cost me?
In My Home: Do we talk more about what God does for us than about the Cross we are asked to share?
In My World: Where is He inviting me to be “handed over” in love—without applause?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Name one thing about Jesus’ path you do not yet understand, and ask Him together. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
After one moment of gratitude for a gift of God today, pray: “Now teach me what it means that You were handed over for me.”

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
