GOD'S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I am the narrow gate—enter through Me and you will find life.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 13:22-30
Jesus passed through towns and villages,
teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem.
Someone asked him,
"Lord, will only a few people be saved?"
He answered them,
"Strive to enter through the narrow gate,
for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter
but will not be strong enough.
After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door,
then will you stand outside knocking and saying,
'Lord, open the door for us.'
He will say to you in reply,
'I do not know where you are from.'
And you will say,
'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.'
Then he will say to you,
'I do not know where you are from.
Depart from me, all you evildoers!'
And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth
when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
and all the prophets in the kingdom of God
and you yourselves cast out.
And people will come from the east and the west
and from the north and the south
and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.
For behold, some are last who will be first,
and some are first who will be last."
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The narrow gate is not an option—it’s the only way.
Jesus’ answer to the question, “Will only a few be saved?” redirects our curiosity from numbers to necessity. The Greek word for “strive” (agonizesthe) is where we get “agonize”—the image is of an athlete exerting everything to win. Salvation is pure gift, but it is not without effort. Grace calls for our cooperation, for a daily, concrete choosing of the way that leads to life.
The “narrow gate” was a familiar term in first-century Israel. It referred to a small, low opening in a city wall that required a person to strip off baggage, stoop down, and enter humbly. Jesus is saying: you cannot come into My Kingdom carrying your pride, your sin, your self-reliance. The way is narrow because it is His way—truth, humility, and sacrificial love.
Parents, our homes are meant to be training grounds for this gate. The culture will try to fill our families with baggage—worldly values, distorted identities, distractions that numb us to eternity. Our job is to help our children travel light, with hearts tuned to Jesus. That means daily forming them in prayer, teaching virtue by example, and speaking God’s truth in love—even when it’s hard. And yes, it means actively praying over them, calling down the grace they need to walk the narrow road with joy.
If we want our children to be “strong enough” when the moment comes, we must help them grow strong now—in Scripture, in the Sacraments, in living the Gospel at home. This is not optional. The gate will not widen for anyone. But the good news is that the One who calls us to enter has already walked the way for us and walks it with us still.
“Since Christ died for all, and all men are in fact called to one and the same destiny, which is divine, we must hold that the Holy Spirit offers to all the possibility of being made partakers, in a way known to God, of the Paschal mystery.” (CCC 1260)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Striving in Faith: What “baggage” is keeping me from entering fully through the narrow gate?
Family Formation: How am I actively helping my children grow “strong enough” in faith?
Daily Surrender: Where is Jesus asking me to stoop low in humility so I can enter His way?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one thing you could each “lay down” this week to better follow Jesus. Then, pray over each person by name, asking for God’s grace, protection, and strength to walk the narrow way with joy and courage.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
