GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Do not be afraid—listen to My beloved Son and let His glory steady you for the journey.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 17:1-9
Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Glory is given to strengthen us for the cross.
Jesus leads Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. In Scripture, mountains are places of revelation—Sinai, Carmel, Horeb. There He is transfigured. The Greek word suggests a change of form, not in essence but in manifestation. The veil lifts. His divine glory flashes through His humanity.
Moses and Elijah appear—Law and Prophets bearing witness. Everything in Israel’s story converges in Christ. This is not a new religion; it is fulfillment. The Father’s voice confirms it: “This is my beloved Son…listen to him.”
Peter wants to build tents, to prolong the moment. The Feast of Tabernacles celebrated God dwelling with His people. Peter senses something holy but misunderstands its timing. Glory is not meant to be contained. It is meant to prepare.
The disciples fall in fear. Glory can overwhelm. But Jesus touches them and says, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” The touch matters. Divine majesty does not crush; it reassures.
Then the descent begins. The mountain is not the destination. The vision is given before the Passion so that when darkness comes, they remember light. Lent gives us glimpses of glory to fortify us for fidelity.
In the domestic church, we need both mountain moments and valley perseverance. Times of clarity, retreat, or deep prayer sustain daily sacrifice. Children must see not only discipline but delight—moments where Christ’s beauty shines.
When the cloud lifts, they see “Jesus alone.” The Christian life simplifies there. Not experience. Not spectacle. Jesus alone.
Build saint-forming homes by creating space for encountering Christ’s glory, pray over your children by name that they may listen to Him above every competing voice, and act boldly in the power of the Holy Spirit, descending the mountain ready to carry light into daily life.
“For a moment Jesus discloses his divine glory, confirming Peter’s confession. He also reveals that he will have to go by the way of the cross at Jerusalem in order to ‘enter into his glory’.” (CCC 555)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where has God given me a glimpse of His glory to strengthen my faith?
In My Home: How can we create space to listen more intentionally to Jesus?
In My World: Am I bringing light from prayer into everyday responsibilities?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one moment when you felt especially close to God.
Then pray together aloud. As parents, place a hand on each person and pray over them by name, asking that they know God’s love personally, be freed from the Enemy’s lies that stir fear, be strengthened to overcome temptation, and be filled with courage to listen to Jesus and follow Him faithfully.
Daily Challenge: Set aside ten focused minutes today for quiet listening prayer as a family.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
