GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
My child, the lie that says “there’s always tomorrow” is stealing your today from Me. I am coming like a thief in the night—not to terrify you, but to rescue you—so live ready, live awake, live fully alive in My love right now.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 24:37-44
Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it was in the days of Noah,
so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
In those days before the flood,
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage,
up to the day that Noah entered the ark.
They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away.
So will it be also at the coming of the Son of Man.
Two men will be out in the field;
one will be taken, and one will be left.
Two women will be grinding at the mill;
one will be taken, and one will be left.
Therefore, stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this: if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The hour is later than you think—live ready.
As Advent dawns, Jesus paints a startling picture for His disciples on the Mount of Olives. The phrase “one will be taken, and one will be left” echoes the suddenness of Noah’s flood, but the Greek verb paralambanō (“taken”) is the same word Jesus uses when He says “I will take you to myself” (John 14:3). This is not random terror; it is intimate rescue. Yet the first hearers—simple Galilean families—would have felt the chill: ordinary life (field work, grinding grain) interrupted forever, neighbors separated in a heartbeat.
In the first century, a thief (kleptēs) didn’t announce himself with trumpets; he came silently through the flat roof or dug under the mud-brick wall while everyone slept. Jesus borrows this image deliberately: My return will be unannounced, personal, decisive. The Enemy whispers the opposite into our homes today: “Nothing dramatic ever happens. Keep scrolling. Keep numbing. Keep postponing holiness.” Meanwhile, marriages drift, children scroll past grace, parents collapse exhausted instead of praying.
In the domestic church, readiness is not paranoia—it is love. It is choosing forgiveness at the dinner table tonight instead of “we’ll talk tomorrow.” It is turning off the game to look your teenager in the eye. It is speaking truth when silence feels safer.
Taken in mercy, left in mercy—no; taken into fullness, left to emptiness. Choose now.
Like St. Andrew, whose feast we celebrate today, who dropped his nets the moment he heard “Come after Me,” families are called to the same immediacy. Andrew left everything ordinary to follow the Extraordinary. Parents, the same invitation rings in your kitchen, your minivan, your sleepless nights.
Tonight, build a saint-forming home that refuses delay, and pray over each child by name in the power of the Holy Spirit, claiming the sudden, glorious coming of the Bridegroom over every lie that tomorrow is guaranteed.
“The Church… will receive its perfection only in the glory of heaven, when the time comes for the renewal of all things (Acts 3:21).” (CCC 769)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Readiness Check: What ordinary moment today are you tempted to treat as if it were guaranteed tomorrow?
Family Separation: If the Lord came tonight, which relationships in your home would grieve you for not having loved more urgently?
Thief-Proofing: What one concrete habit of prayer or charity will you begin this Advent to keep watch?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around the circle, have each person finish the sentence: “One thing I want to be ‘ready’ for Jesus in this Advent is…”
Then, placing a hand on each person’s head or shoulder, pray aloud over them by name:
“Lord Jesus, come quickly for [name]! Flood their heart with grace to know how madly You love them right now. Silence every whisper that says ‘later is fine.’ Free them from fear and distraction. Fill them with burning readiness to meet You with joy, and let their life become a living ‘Maranatha!’ this Advent. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Light the first Advent candle together (even if it’s just one purple candle from the drawer) and let each family member name one person they will love “as if today were the last day” this week—then do it.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
PARENT BLESSING PROJECT
GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
