GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Running low? The flame needs more than yesterday’s oil.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 25:1-13
Jesus told his disciples this parable:
"The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins
who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps,
brought no oil with them,
but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.
Since the bridegroom was long delayed,
they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
At midnight, there was a cry,
'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.
The foolish ones said to the wise,
'Give us some of your oil,
for our lamps are going out.'
But the wise ones replied,
'No, for there may not be enough for us and you.
Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.'
While they went off to buy it,
the bridegroom came
and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him.
Then the door was locked.
Afterwards the other virgins came and said,
'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!'
But he said in reply,
'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.'
Therefore, stay awake,
for you know neither the day nor the hour."
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Readiness for Christ grows through a living communion that we must personally receive and nurture.
What is sustaining your relationship with Jesus when the waiting grows long and no one is watching?
All ten bring lamps. All ten expect the bridegroom. From a distance, their preparations may look much the same. The difference becomes visible through the delay. We can recognize something of ourselves here: familiar prayers, religious commitments, and sincere intentions can coexist with an inward life receiving little nourishment. The waiting reveals what our initial enthusiasm could not.
Notice a detail that can easily escape us: all ten fall asleep. Jesus’ concluding call to vigilance therefore reaches deeper than physical wakefulness or constant activity. The wise have prepared for an arrival whose timing they cannot control. They can rise and respond when the call comes. Faithful readiness includes the ordinary rhythms of human weakness and rest, sustained by a commitment that remains real through them.
The oil cannot simply be transferred at the decisive moment. Without assigning every detail a single symbolic meaning, we can hear a personal challenge: another person’s fidelity cannot take the place of our own response to Christ. We can benefit enormously from a spouse’s prayers, a parent’s example, and the Church’s sacramental life. Yet each of us must receive grace and consent to the relationship offered. A borrowed lamp cannot sustain a personal flame.
The bridegroom’s words about not knowing them bring the parable’s urgency close. We were created for communion with God, and through Jesus we are invited to participate in His life. Religious familiarity deserves to deepen into a relationship that shapes our actual desires and choices. Bring Him the worry occupying your mind, the sin you keep excusing, the gratitude you have scarcely expressed. Prayer, Confession, and the Eucharist nourish that communion through both consolation and dryness.
For us as parents, the home is the domestic church, where we help one another prepare without trying to live another person’s faith for them. We can pray with our children and make room for their honest questions. We can encourage our spouse while attending to our own need for conversion. A household rhythm of prayer gives each person opportunities to turn toward Jesus. Its fruit grows through willing participation, patient example, and grace we continue asking to receive.
Build saint-forming homes by establishing a sustainable rhythm of prayer and sacramental life; pray over your spouse and children by name, asking that each personally welcome Christ and persevere in friendship with Him; act in the power of the Holy Spirit by tending one neglected practice that will help your love remain faithful through the waiting.
“In positive terms, the battle against the possessive and dominating self requires vigilance, sobriety of heart.” (CCC 2730)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What am I relying upon from my past while neglecting my present response to Jesus?
In My Home: How can I encourage personal faith in my family while taking responsibility for nurturing my own?
In My World: What recurring distraction is consuming attention I need to give to what has eternal significance?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name something worthwhile that needs regular care to remain strong. Discuss one simple practice that helps a friendship with Jesus grow.
Then pray over each person by name: “Lord Jesus, help [Name] personally know the love with which You invite them close. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that faith can always wait or that spiritual dryness means You are absent. Strengthen them to overcome temptation, especially neglect, discouragement, and presumption. Holy Spirit, give them joy in living the Gospel through daily prayer, sincere repentance, and faithful acts of love. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Choose a brief daily prayer time and keep it today, even if you feel distracted or tired.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING

We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
