INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 2:13–22
Since the Passover of the Jews was near,
Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves,
as well as the money-changers seated there.
He made a whip out of cords
and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen,
and spilled the coins of the money-changers
and overturned their tables,
and to those who sold doves he said,
“Take these out of here,
and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.”
His disciples recalled the words of Scripture,
Zeal for your house will consume me.
At this the Jews answered and said to him,
“What sign can you show us for doing this?”
Jesus answered and said to them,
“Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
The Jews said,
“This temple has been under construction for forty-six years,
and you will raise it up in three days?”
But he was speaking about the temple of his Body.
Therefore, when he was raised from the dead,
his disciples remembered that he had said this,
and they came to believe the Scripture
and the word Jesus had spoken.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Jesus doesn’t just cleanse buildings—He cleanses hearts.
The Feast of the Lateran Basilica honors the mother church of all Christendom, the cathedral of Rome where the Pope’s chair stands as a sign of unity for the whole Church. Yet today’s Gospel reminds us that temples of stone are only signs of a deeper reality: the living temple of Christ’s Body—and of our bodies in Him.
When Jesus overturned the tables, it wasn’t an outburst of anger. It was an eruption of divine love. The Greek word for “consume” (kataphagetai) means to devour completely. Zeal for His Father’s house wasn’t rage—it was passion. He saw sacred space desecrated by transaction, prayer replaced by profit. The marketplace had invaded the holy place.
It’s easy to condemn those merchants and miss the personal mirror: what tables clutter the temple of your heart? Where have you allowed transaction—what you can get—to replace transformation—what God longs to give? Jesus still comes with zeal to overturn every false god of comfort, control, and compromise that crowds out communion.
For families, this is not metaphorical. The home is the domestic church—the “little basilica” of Christ’s presence. Parents, your words, routines, and priorities either make it a house of prayer or a marketplace of noise, distraction, and negotiation. Children, your joy and obedience honor that sacred space. When you pray together, forgive each other, and turn off the noise to listen to God, you’re letting Jesus cleanse the temple of your family’s soul.
Today’s feast reminds us: holiness begins at home. The Church’s strength flows from households made radiant with worship. Let Him drive out what cheapens your heart so He can fill it with glory.
“The Church is the temple of the living God: the dwelling of God with men, reconciled and united in Christ.” (CCC 756)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Cleansed: What “tables” of distraction, pride, or self-justification might Jesus want to overturn in your heart right now?
Consecrated: How can your home become more visibly a house of prayer—a place of peace, reverence, and love?
Consumed: Where might God be inviting you to exchange complacency for holy zeal?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, identify one small way your home can better reflect the presence of God—perhaps a prayer space, family blessing time, or turning off screens for shared quiet.
Then pray over one another by name: Lord Jesus, come into our home and cleanse it of all that distracts us from You. Fill our hearts with zeal for Your dwelling. Make [Name] a living temple of Your love, peace, and power.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
