GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Give Me what belongs to Me; let My truth guide you beyond the fear of anyone’s opinion.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 22:15-21
The Pharisees went off
and plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech.
They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying,
“Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man
and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
And you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion,
for you do not regard a person’s status.
Tell us, then, what is your opinion:
Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?”
Knowing their malice, Jesus said,
“Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
Show me the coin that pays the census tax.”
Then they handed him the Roman coin.
He said to them, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?”
They replied, “Caesar’s.”
At that he said to them,
“Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar
and to God what belongs to God.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
You bear God’s image, and your whole life finds its purpose in belonging to Him.
Which part of your life do you manage as though God has no claim upon it?
They approach Jesus with flattering words and a carefully arranged trap. Their question pressures Him to choose a side in a dispute about allegiance. Jesus asks them to look at what they are holding. The coin bears Caesar’s image. His answer acknowledges a civil obligation while directing their attention toward the far greater claim of God. We, too, can become so absorbed in immediate demands that we overlook the One to whom our lives belong.
Here is a theological connection worth lingering over: the image on the coin identifies Caesar, while Genesis identifies the human person as bearing God’s image. Read together, these passages invite a searching examination of what we offer our Creator. Our bodies, intelligence, relationships, and freedom come from Him. Every person we encounter carries a dignity that no ruler, institution, or public opinion can bestow or remove.
Yet we often experience belonging to God as an occasional thought rather than the reality within which we live. We connect with Him during prayer, then spend the next several hours acting as the sole owners and managers of our existence. That inward isolation wears us down. Through Jesus Christ, God calls us into participation in His life, where our responsibilities can become places of communion. Before opening the next message or beginning the next task, pause: “Father, I am Yours. Help me do this with You.”
Caesar can claim a coin; he cannot claim your conscience. Civic responsibilities deserve honest attention, and God’s authority reaches into the way we fulfill them. Paying what we owe, refusing dishonesty, defending human dignity, and speaking truth with charity all belong within discipleship. We need His wisdom when competing loyalties press upon us. Prayer and the sacraments deepen the communion from which faithful judgment and courageous action grow.
For us as parents, the home is the domestic church, where belonging to God becomes practical. A family calendar can reveal what receives our first attention. A budget can reveal what we trust. A disagreement can reveal whose dignity we forget when frustrated. We can begin by making room for Sunday Mass, giving our spouse undivided attention, or listening to a child before reaching a conclusion. Each response offers something of ourselves back to the Lord who entrusted these people to our care.
Build saint-forming homes by placing your time, resources, and relationships at God’s service; pray over your spouse and children by name, asking that they discover the dignity and purpose of belonging to Him; act in the power of the Holy Spirit by surrendering one guarded area of life and making a concrete choice that honors His claim.
“He is capable of self-knowledge, of self-possession and of freely giving himself and entering into communion with other persons.” (CCC 357)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where am I allowing approval, money, or control to determine a choice that belongs before God?
In My Home: What does our use of time communicate about whom our family serves?
In My World: How can I fulfill a public responsibility while honoring the God-given dignity of those affected?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name one gift God has entrusted to them and one way they could use it for someone else this week.
Then pray over each person by name: “Father, let [Name] personally know Your love and delight in being Your child. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that their value comes from possessions, popularity, or achievement. Strengthen them to overcome temptation, especially selfishness and compromise. Give them joyful resolve to follow Jesus through a generous use of their gifts and a faithful response to their responsibilities. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Set aside one distraction for fifteen minutes and give that time to someone God has entrusted to your care.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
