GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
The vineyard is Mine, and My Son is My gift to you; reject the lie that you can possess life apart from Me, and welcome Him as your cornerstone.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 21:33-43
Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
“Hear another parable.
There was a landowner who planted a vineyard,
put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower.
Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey.
When vintage time drew near,
he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce.
But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat,
another they killed, and a third they stoned.
Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones,
but they treated them in the same way.
Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking,
‘They will respect my son.’
But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another,
‘This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’
They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?”
They answered him,
“He will put those wretched men to a wretched death
and lease his vineyard to other tenants
who will give him the produce at the proper times.”
Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?
Therefore, I say to you,
the kingdom of God will be taken away from you
and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”

GOING DEEPER
The life entrusted to us becomes fruitful as we welcome the Son and allow Him to shape it from within.
Where do you welcome God’s gifts while resisting His claim upon the way you use them?
The vineyard is planted and provided for before the tenants begin their work. They receive a place prepared to bear fruit. Their tragedy unfolds as stewardship hardens into possession: they want the inheritance while refusing the heir. We recognize a quieter version of that temptation. We receive life, love, abilities, and opportunities from God, then gradually treat them as our private territory. We still believe in Him, but our daily decisions increasingly proceed without reference to His presence.
Jesus’ opening deliberately echoes Isaiah’s song of the vineyard, familiar to His hearers and proclaimed in today’s first reading. The planting, wine press, and tower recall God’s attentive care for His people. This makes the tenants’ violence especially grave: they resist a relationship marked by generosity and accountability. The parable initially confronts the religious leaders before Jesus, but it also searches everyone entrusted with His gifts. We must ask what our response to God’s care is producing.
The owner sends servants repeatedly, then sends his son. Jesus reveals the terrible seriousness of rejecting Him, even as the rejected stone becomes the cornerstone through God’s action. We can resist Christ without declaring ourselves His enemies. We can dismiss His correction because it arrives through someone we find difficult, postpone an act of obedience because it threatens our comfort, or ask Him to bless plans we refuse to place before Him honestly. The Son comes close, and we must decide whether He may direct the life He has given us.
This is where the Gospel reaches our deeper hunger. We were made for communion with God, yet we often settle for managing His gifts at a distance from Him. We become busy, protective, and anxious, trying to secure what we cannot ultimately keep. Christ invites us to receive life in relationship with Him: listening, repenting, trusting, and responding. His grace heals the impulse to grasp and enables us to give. A guarded life grasps; a surrendered life grows. In the Eucharist He nourishes that communion; in Reconciliation He meets our resistance with forgiveness and grace for renewal.
Our home is the domestic church, and parenthood makes this invitation wonderfully concrete. As parents, we are entrusted with persons whose lives belong first to God. We guide them, set necessary boundaries, and help them grow, while resisting the temptation to make their achievements or choices an extension of our own identity. Our spouse, too, is someone to cherish rather than manage. Fruit appears when we listen without demanding agreement, correct without humiliation, and acknowledge our own need for conversion. The cornerstone of our household becomes visible in how we exercise authority.
Build saint-forming homes where every gift is received gratefully and placed at Christ’s service. Pray over your spouse and children by name, entrusting their freedom, vocation, and growth to Him. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit: surrender one area you have kept under your exclusive control, welcome the Son’s correction, and cultivate the patience, justice, and charity that reveal His life at work within your family.
“The fruit referred to in this saying is the holiness of a life made fruitful by union with Christ.” (CCC 2074) vatican.va
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What gift from God have I begun treating as something over which He has no authority?
In My Home: Where does my desire to control my spouse or children interfere with loving them as persons entrusted to my care?
In My World: How could my work, influence, or resources bear greater fruit if I placed them more consciously at Christ’s service?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name one gift God has entrusted to them and one way they could use it to help someone this week.
Pray over each person by name: “Lord Jesus, help [name] personally know Your generous love. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that they must grasp for security or keep You at a distance to remain free. Strengthen them to overcome temptation, especially selfishness and resistance to correction. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit and joyful willingness to live the Gospel through faithful work, generous sharing, and care for the people You entrust to them. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Use one family resource—your time, a possession, or a skill—to serve someone beyond your household today.
