INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 17:1-9
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

GOING DEEPER
The Transfiguration reveals Jesus in glory so that, when shadows come, we may listen to Him and rise without fear.
Where do we most need to lift our eyes from fear and rediscover Jesus alone as the One who leads us?
Jesus brings Peter, James, and John up the mountain before leading them down the road toward His Passion. The Transfiguration is not an escape from the Cross; it is a revelation that gives the disciples strength to endure it. The Father lets them see the glory of the Son before they will see His suffering.
Moses and Elijah stand with Jesus, representing the Law and the Prophets. Everything God had revealed to Israel points to this one stunning truth: Jesus is the beloved Son. The Father’s command is not complicated—“listen to him.” In a world crowded with competing voices, the most necessary discipline of the Christian life is learning again to hear the voice of Christ.
Peter wants to remain on the mountain, and who can blame him? We all cherish moments when prayer is clear, faith feels alive, and the presence of God seems close. But Jesus leads them back down. Mountaintop grace is not meant to be stored away; it is meant to strengthen us for the ordinary terrain of work, marriage, parenting, relationships, and sacrifice.
The domestic church needs these moments of holy attention. We may not stand on Tabor, but we can make space to listen: a family prayer before the day begins, a Gospel passage at the table, a quiet blessing over a child, or a few minutes before the Blessed Sacrament. These are not mere religious accessories. They train our household to recognize Jesus as the center.
The disciples fall down in fear, but Jesus comes near, touches them, and says, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” This is always His way. He does not reveal His glory to overwhelm us, but to draw us up. His radiance is not a spotlight exposing our weakness; it is the light that heals it.
The mountain is meant to change the valley. Build saint-forming homes, pray over your children by name, and act in the power of the Holy Spirit so that your family may listen to Jesus, rise from fear, and carry His light into every ordinary day.
“Christ’s Transfiguration aims at strengthening the apostles’ faith in anticipation of his Passion: the ascent onto the ‘high mountain’ prepares for the ascent to Calvary. Christ, Head of the Church, manifests what his Body contains and radiates in the sacraments: ‘the hope of glory.’” (CCC, 556)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What voice or fear is competing with Jesus for my attention right now?
In My Home: What simple practice can help our family listen more attentively to the voice of Christ?
In My World: How can I bring the peace and radiance of Jesus into a place weighed down by fear or discouragement?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to share one moment when they have felt especially close to God or aware of His love.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, to free them from the Enemy’s lies and fears, to strengthen them against temptation, and to fill them with joyful readiness to live the Gospel. Ask the Holy Spirit to help your family listen to Jesus and carry His light into the week ahead.
Daily Challenge: Set aside five quiet minutes today to read this Gospel slowly and ask Jesus: “What do You want me to hear?”

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
