INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 13:10-17
The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?”
He said to them in reply,
“Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven
has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted.
To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich;
from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
This is why I speak to them in parables, because
they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.
Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says:
You shall indeed hear but not understand,
you shall indeed look but never see.
Gross is the heart of this people,
they will hardly hear with their ears,
they have closed their eyes,
lest they see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their hearts and be converted
and I heal them.
“But blessed are your eyes, because they see,
and your ears, because they hear.
Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people
longed to see what you see but did not see it,
and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

GOING DEEPER
God’s greatest obstacle is not our lack of intelligence, but our unwillingness to let Him change our hearts.
When God speaks through Scripture, prayer, the Church, or the circumstances of my life, am I truly listening—or merely waiting for Him to affirm what I already believe?
The disciples wonder why Jesus teaches in parables. His answer seems surprising: some will understand, while others will not. It is not because God desires to hide the truth, but because truth can only be received by a heart willing to surrender. A parable is not simply an illustration; it is an invitation. It reveals enough to awaken the humble while leaving the proud undisturbed. God’s Word never forces itself upon us. Love always respects freedom.
Jesus quotes Isaiah, lamenting people who “hear but do not understand” and “look but never see.” The problem is not their eyes or ears but their hearts. In Scripture, the heart is the center of the human person—the place where intellect, will, memory, and desire converge. It is possible to know doctrine, attend Mass, read the Bible, and still resist the living God because our hearts remain closed. Conversion is not merely changing our opinions; it is allowing the Holy Spirit to transform the deepest center of our being.
Jesus then declares, “Blessed are your eyes, because they see.” What do the disciples see that prophets and kings longed to behold? They are looking upon the eternal Son of God made flesh. Every promise, every sacrifice, every prophecy, every longing of Israel is fulfilled in Him. Yet we possess an even greater privilege. The same Christ who walked the roads of Galilee now gives Himself to us in the Holy Eucharist. The disciples saw Him with their natural eyes; we encounter Him sacramentally with the eyes of faith. Heaven continues to touch earth at every Mass.
The Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time quietly reminds us that spiritual vision is cultivated through ordinary fidelity. A heart that prays daily begins to notice God’s providence. A soul that regularly receives the Eucharist becomes more sensitive to His voice. Frequent Confession clears away the blindness of sin. Like a window gradually washed clean, the Christian life allows more and more of Christ’s light to shine through. The mysteries of the Kingdom are not reserved for spiritual elites. They are given to those humble enough to receive them.
This transformation begins at home. Families are constantly forming hearts—for good or for ill. The conversations around the dinner table, the way conflicts are resolved, the priorities that shape the family calendar, the reverence shown in prayer—all of these teach children what truly matters. Build saint-forming homes where God’s Word is not merely discussed but lived. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. Let your home become a place where every heart is gradually trained to recognize the gentle voice of the Good Shepherd.
The world does not primarily need people with sharper arguments. It needs men and women whose hearts have been opened by grace. Such people begin to see every person as beloved, every trial as an opportunity for trust, every ordinary day as a place where the Kingdom is quietly unfolding. Blessed indeed are the eyes that see Christ—and even more blessed are the hearts that allow Him to reign within them.
“The heart is the dwelling-place where I am, where I live... It is the place of truth, where we choose life or death. It is the place of encounter.” (CCC 2563)

In My Heart: What area of my life am I resisting God’s invitation to deeper conversion?
In My Home: How can our family create more intentional space to hear God’s voice together?
In My World: How can I help someone encounter Christ rather than merely win an argument about Him?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Gather together and slowly read today’s Gospel aloud. Then ask each family member to share one word or phrase that stood out and why.
Pray over each person by name. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your minds to God’s truth and your hearts to His transforming love. Pray that your home would become fertile soil where the Word of God is welcomed, treasured, and lived with joy.
Daily Challenge: Before making an important decision today, pause and simply pray: “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
