GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Keep My word and you will not taste death, for I AM the source of eternal life.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 8:51–59
Jesus said to the Jews:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever keeps my word will never see death.”
So the Jews said to him,
“Now we are sure that you are possessed.
Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say,
‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’
Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died?
Or the prophets, who died?
Who do you make yourself out to be?”
Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing;
but it is my Father who glorifies me,
of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’
You do not know him, but I know him.
And if I should say that I do not know him,
I would be like you a liar.
But I do know him and I keep his word.
Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day;
he saw it and was glad.”
So the Jews said to him,
“You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?”
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
before Abraham came to be, I AM.”
So they picked up stones to throw at him;
but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

GOING DEEPER
To keep the word of Jesus is to live in a relationship that conquers death itself.
Do I treat the words of Jesus as guidance—or as the very source of life?
Jesus makes a stunning promise: “Whoever keeps my word will never see death.” This is not a poetic exaggeration. It is a revelation of reality. The Greek word for “keep” is tēreō, which means to guard, to hold fast, to live in faithful obedience. This is not passive listening—it is active, relational fidelity.
The crowd immediately objects. They point to Abraham and the prophets—all of whom physically died. They are thinking only in earthly terms. Jesus is speaking of something far deeper: eternal life, communion with God that transcends physical death.
Then comes one of the most dramatic declarations in all of Scripture. Jesus says, “Before Abraham came to be, I AM.” Once again, He uses the divine name—ego eimi. This is not simply a claim of pre-existence. It is a direct identification with the eternal God who revealed Himself to Moses.
The reaction is immediate. They pick up stones. They understand exactly what He is saying. This is either blasphemy—or it is the truth that changes everything.
This moment forces a decision. There is no neutral ground with Jesus. Either He is who He says He is—the eternal Son of God—or He is not. To believe Him means to entrust our lives fully to His word.
In family life, this question becomes deeply practical. Do we treat Jesus’ words as optional advice, or as the foundation of how we live? When His teachings challenge us—on forgiveness, sacrifice, truth, or love—do we adjust our lives, or reinterpret His words to fit our preferences?
The domestic church is built on this very decision. A home rooted in Christ takes His word seriously. It is spoken, lived, and trusted. Over time, that obedience forms hearts that are alive with grace.
Parents, this Gospel calls us to bold clarity. Jesus is not one voice among many—He is the I AM. Build your home on His word. Speak it. Live it. Trust it. Pray over your children by name, asking the Holy Spirit to root them in truth and lead them into eternal life. The promise is real: those who keep His word will live beyond death.
“The Word became flesh to make us ‘partakers of the divine nature.’” (CCC 460)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Do I truly live as if Jesus’ word is the source of my life and identity?
In My Home: How can our family more intentionally live according to the teachings of Christ?
In My World: Where might God be calling me to witness more boldly to the truth of who Jesus is?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one teaching of Jesus that each person wants to live more fully.
Then pray together as a family. Parents, place your hands gently on each person and pray over them by name. Ask the Holy Spirit to help them know and love the word of Jesus. Renounce any lies of the Enemy that lead them away from truth. Pray for strength to overcome temptation, courage to live faithfully, and joy in walking with Christ.
Daily Challenge: Choose one specific teaching of Jesus today and intentionally live it out as a family.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
