Do not ignore the one at your gate—listen to My word now, and let your heart be moved to mercy.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 16:19-31
Jesus said to the Pharisees:
"There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen
and dined sumptuously each day.
And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,
who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps
that fell from the rich man's table.
Dogs even used to come and lick his sores.
When the poor man died,
he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham.
The rich man also died and was buried,
and from the netherworld, where he was in torment,
he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off
and Lazarus at his side.
And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me.
Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
for I am suffering torment in these flames.'
Abraham replied, 'My child,
remember that you received what was good during your lifetime
while Lazarus likewise received what was bad;
but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented.
Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established
to prevent anyone from crossing
who might wish to go from our side to yours
or from your side to ours.'
He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him
to my father's house,
for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them,
lest they too come to this place of torment.'
But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets.
Let them listen to them.'
He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham,
but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
Then Abraham said,
'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded
if someone should rise from the dead.'"
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Indifference builds chasms long before eternity reveals them.
Jesus does not describe a monster. He describes a comfortable man.
The rich man is not accused of violence, theft, or blasphemy. His sin is quieter. Lazarus lies at his gate. Not across the city. Not hidden. At his gate. Visible. Repeatedly. Daily. And he walks past.
That is what makes this parable unsettling. We recognize ourselves more easily in neglect than in cruelty.
Lazarus is named. The rich man is not. In Scripture, names matter. Heaven remembers the one the world overlooked. But the man who defined himself by comfort and consumption slowly dissolves into anonymity. Self-absorption erodes identity.
The great reversal is not arbitrary. The “chasm” in eternity mirrors the distance cultivated on earth. Indifference is not neutral. It shapes the soul. Every ignored need, every postponed act of mercy, every rationalized avoidance presses the heart a little harder.
And even in torment, the rich man still sees Lazarus as someone to serve him. “Send Lazarus.” The posture has not changed. Suffering alone does not convert. Only repentance does.
Abraham’s final words cut deep: “They have Moses and the prophets.” They already have revelation. They already have instruction. The issue is not lack of signs. It is lack of listening.
We are tempted to think: If God just showed Himself more dramatically, I would respond. But Jesus is clear — the Word has already been given. The Resurrection itself will not persuade a hardened heart.
This confronts the domestic church. Who lies at our gate? The child quietly struggling. The spouse exhausted and unseen. The elderly parent we keep meaning to call. The neighbor whose loneliness is obvious if we look closely enough.
Wealth is not just money. It is margin. Attention. Energy. Influence. And whenever we guard those tightly, something in us narrows.
Indifference is the most polite form of cruelty.
Mercy closes distances before they become eternal.
Build saint-forming homes by training your eyes to notice what others overlook, pray over your children by name that their hearts remain soft and responsive to need, and act boldly in the power of the Holy Spirit — because the way you respond to the Lazarus at your gate today is shaping the soul you will stand before God with tomorrow.

LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where might I be growing comfortable with someone else’s suffering?
In My Home: Who in our family needs more attentive compassion right now?
In My World: What practical step can I take to close a gap between myself and someone in need?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, identify one concrete way your family can serve someone outside your immediate circle.
Then pray together aloud. As parents, place a hand on each person and pray over them by name, asking that they know God’s love personally, be freed from the Enemy’s lies that justify indifference, be strengthened to overcome selfish comfort, and be filled with eager compassion for those in need.
Daily Challenge: Offer one tangible act of generosity today—time, attention, or resources—to someone at your “gate.”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
