GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I am sending you. Go as a lamb. Speak peace. The harvest is already Mine.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 10:1-12
Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples
whom he sent ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place he intended to visit.
He said to them,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.
Go on your way;
behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.
Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals;
and greet no one along the way.
Into whatever house you enter, first say,
‘Peace to this household.’
If a peaceful person lives there,
your peace will rest on him;
but if not, it will return to you.
Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you,
for the laborer deserves his payment.
Do not move about from one house to another.
Whatever town you enter and they welcome you,
eat what is set before you,
cure the sick in it and say to them,
‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.’
Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you,
go out into the streets and say,
‘The dust of your town that clings to our feet,
even that we shake off against you.’
Yet know this: the Kingdom of God is at hand.
I tell you,
it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day
than for that town.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
He does not send a private army. He sends pairs of lambs with one first word: Peace.
What would it mean to enter your own house today as someone Jesus has already sent?
Seventy-two: a number that sounds like the nations, the wide world beyond the Twelve. They go ahead of Him, two by two, into places He Himself intends to visit. The harvest is not their idea. It is His field, already white. Their first labor is prayer: ask the Master to send. Then the poverty: no bag, no extra sandals, no lingering chatter on the road. Urgency, not rudeness. And the greeting that decides a household: “Peace to this house.” If a son of peace is there, the gift rests. If not, the peace comes back to the one who offered it. You cannot lose what Christ placed in your mouth.
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux never crossed an ocean, yet the Church named her patroness of missions. A young Carmelite, hidden, often unseen, she discovered that the harvest could be loved from a cell. She offered the small things—a glance, a swallowed irritation, a prayer for a sinner she would never meet—as her way of being sent. Lamb, not wolf. No sack of self-importance. Peace first. She believed the Kingdom was “at hand” in the ordinary corridor, the tired evening, the unremarkable duty. That is not childish religion. That is the Gospel in a household key.
You may feel too small for the wolves. Good. He did not ask you to become one. He asked you to go with His peace, stay where you are received, heal what you can, and tell the truth: the Kingdom of God is at hand for you.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by speaking Christ’s peace over one household today—beginning with your own.
“Having been divinely sent to the nations that she might be ‘the universal sacrament of salvation,’ the Church, in obedience to the command of her founder and because it is demanded by her own essential universality, strives to preach the Gospel to all men.” (CCC 849)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Have I been waiting to feel ready, while Jesus is already sending me?
In My Home: What would “Peace to this household” change if we meant it every time we crossed the threshold?
In My World: Where is the harvest abundant around us—and how can we labor as lambs, not as wolves?
