GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Always bracing yourself? There is shelter in the love pursuing you.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 13:31-35
Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said,
“Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you.”
He replied, “Go and tell that fox,
‘Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow,
and on the third day I accomplish my purpose.
Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day,
for it is impossible that a prophet should die
outside of Jerusalem.’
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,
how many times I yearned to gather your children together
as a hen gathers her brood under her wings,
but you were unwilling!
Behold, your house will be abandoned.
But I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say,
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”

GOING DEEPER
Jesus desires to gather us into a love that steadies our steps and asks for our willing response.
Where are you keeping your guard up against the very love you need?
A threat hangs over Jesus’ work: Herod wants Him dead. Yet His response remains rooted in His mission of healing and deliverance. He continues toward Jerusalem with a purpose that intimidation cannot dictate. We can spend much of our lives letting anticipated reactions determine our choices. Someone’s displeasure becomes the boundary of our obedience. Jesus shows us a freedom grounded in faithfulness to the Father.
Then His words become a lament. The One who speaks firmly about Herod reveals His tenderness toward Jerusalem. Notice the movement between the two animal images: the threatening ruler is called a fox; Jesus compares His own gathering love to a hen sheltering her young. Power exercised through danger encounters a love willing to draw the vulnerable close. His courage and His tenderness belong to the same heart.
That heart longs for a response Jerusalem has resisted. Jesus names their unwillingness, revealing how profoundly our freedom matters. We can be deeply loved and still refuse to receive that love. We can attend worship, speak correctly about faith, and keep our actual fears behind a locked interior door. His lament invites us to examine where we resist being gathered: the resentment we defend, the shame we conceal, the control we cannot imagine releasing.
We were created for communion with God, and Christ opens that life to us through His saving self-offering. Prayer becomes a place to bring Him the person we are beneath our defenses. We can begin honestly: “Jesus, I want Your help, but I am afraid to trust You here.” Receiving His mercy in Confession and His presence in the Eucharist draws us further into that relationship. Shelter in Him gives us courage to face what love requires.
For us as parents, the home is the domestic church, where we learn something of both this longing and its vulnerability. We want a child to accept help; we ache when an adult child grows distant. We may offer affection to a spouse who remains guarded. Jesus teaches us to keep truth and tenderness together, honoring freedom while remaining faithful in love. We also need to ask whether our own manner makes approaching us difficult. A welcoming home begins with hearts willing to be welcomed by God.
Build saint-forming homes by making truth approachable and mercy tangible; pray over your spouse and children by name, entrusting their freedom and their wounds to Christ’s gathering love; act in the power of the Holy Spirit by lowering one defensive habit and offering a patient invitation to connection.
“Contemplative prayer is a covenant relationship established by God within our hearts.” (CCC 2713)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What would I need to entrust to Jesus to become less guarded in His presence?
In My Home: How might my tone or reactions discourage someone from approaching me honestly?
In My World: Where is fear of another person’s response keeping me from a faithful, loving action?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to share one thing that helps them feel comfortable asking for help. Listen without defending past responses.
Then pray over each person by name: “Lord Jesus, let [Name] personally know the warmth and faithfulness of Your love. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that vulnerability makes them unworthy or that they must protect themselves from You. Strengthen them to overcome temptation, especially withdrawal, stubbornness, and fear. Holy Spirit, give them joy in living the Gospel through honest conversation, courageous trust, and a welcoming heart. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Invite someone to share how they are doing, and listen without interrupting or rushing to solve the problem.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
