INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 9:7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening,
and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying,
“John has been raised from the dead”;
others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”;
still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
But Herod said, “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
And he kept trying to see him.

GOING DEEPER
Curiosity can circle Jesus for years and never kneel.
Beloved, are you collecting reports about Him—or coming close enough to be changed?
Herod is a tetrarch: a small king with a large fear. News of Jesus reaches the palace and the court begins to classify Him. John raised. Elijah returned. An ancient prophet. Herod cannot use those categories. He already knows what he did to John. Luke’s word is diēporei—he is at a loss, boxed in by his own deed. “John I beheaded.” Conscience speaks before theology does. Then the haunting line: he “kept trying to see him.”
Later Luke will show that seeing. Herod will get his look at Jesus and walk away unsatisfied, because he wanted a sign, not a Lord. The hunger to see can be holy. It can also be the last vanity of a man who will inspect Christ and never repent.
You may not live in a palace. You can still live like Herod: well informed, spiritually interested, and unwilling to let the question become surrender. “Who then is this?” is the right question. It is only lethal when we ask it from a safe balcony.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by moving from talk about Jesus to an encounter with Him today.
“The signs worked by Jesus attest that the Father has sent him. They invite belief in him. To those who turn to him in faith, he grants what they ask. So miracles strengthen faith in the One who does his Father’s works; they bear witness that he is the Son of God. But his miracles can also be occasions for ‘offence’; they are not intended to satisfy people’s curiosity or desire for magic.” (CCC 548)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where am I “trying to see” Jesus without letting Him judge what I have done?
In My Home: Do we talk about Christ as news—or meet Him as Lord?
In My World: Whose spiritual curiosity can I help become an actual encounter this week?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Share one question you still have about Jesus, then sit in silence and ask Him to answer as Lord, not as a rumor. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
Stop one conversation about Jesus long enough to speak to Him, and stay until you have told Him the truth.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
