INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:27-38
Jesus said to his disciples:
“To you who hear I say, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you,
pray for those who mistreat you.
To the person who strikes you on one cheek,
offer the other one as well,
and from the person who takes your cloak,
do not withhold even your tunic.
Give to everyone who asks of you,
and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
For if you love those who love you,
what credit is that to you?
Even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do good to you,
what credit is that to you?
Even sinners do the same.
If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment,
what credit is that to you?
Even sinners lend to sinners,
and get back the same amount.
But rather, love your enemies and do good to them,
and lend expecting nothing back;
then your reward will be great
and you will be children of the Most High,
for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Be merciful, just as also your Father is merciful.
“Stop judging and you will not be judged.
Stop condemning and you will not be condemned.
Forgive and you will be forgiven.
Give and gifts will be given to you;
a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing,
will be poured into your lap.
For the measure with which you measure
will in return be measured out to you.”

GOING DEEPER
Mercy is not the extra credit of the Gospel. It is how children of the Most High become recognizable.
Whom have we loved only because they already loved us back?
Jesus speaks “to you who hear.” Hearing is not admiration. Hearing is the moment the command enters the house. Love enemies. Bless those who curse. Pray for those who mistreat. This is not niceness. It is participation in the Father’s own kindness toward the ungrateful and the wicked—including us.
The measure we use at home becomes the climate of the home. We keep score. We remember the slight. We lend affection only where repayment is likely. Jesus names that for what it is: even sinners do the same. The Kingdom begins where the cycle breaks—where a spouse is blessed instead of answered in kind, where a child’s failure is met with mercy before lecture, where we stop demanding our cloak back and start giving what cannot be earned.
The last word is not grim duty. It is abundance: a good measure, packed, shaken, overflowing, poured into your lap. Mercy does not empty the household. Mercy is how the Father fills it.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by choosing one person today who does not “deserve” your kindness—and giving it anyway.
“In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord recalls the commandment, ‘You shall not kill,’ and adds to it the proscription of anger, hatred, and vengeance. Going further, Christ asks his disciples to turn the other cheek, to love their enemies. He did not defend himself and told Peter to leave his sword in its sheath.” (CCC 2262)

In My Heart: Whom do I still love only on the condition of return?
In My Home: What measure—judgment or mercy—are we pouring into one another?
In My World: Who has mistreated me, and how will I pray for them by name today?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Name one person who is hard to love, and one concrete mercy you can offer. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.

Bless, do good, or pray for one person who has irritated, wounded, or overlooked you today.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
