INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 2:36–40
There was a prophetess, Anna,
the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
She was advanced in years,
having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage,
and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.
She never left the temple,
but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer.
And coming forward at that very time,
she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child
to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.
When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions
of the law of the Lord,
they returned to Galilee,
to their own town of Nazareth.
The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;
and the favor of God was upon him.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Faithfulness that perseveres becomes a voice of hope for others.
Anna appears briefly in the Gospel, yet her life speaks volumes. Decades of waiting, prayer, fasting, and fidelity are compressed into a few lines. She is not rushing God. She is not demanding signs. She simply remains—day after day—in the place of worship, attentive to the movements of the Holy Spirit.
Luke identifies Anna as a prophetess, not because she predicts the future, but because she recognizes God’s action in the present. Her long obedience sharpens her sight. When the Child is brought into the Temple, she knows immediately who He is. Thanksgiving erupts before explanation. Praise precedes proclamation.
Anna’s gratitude overflows outward. She speaks about the Child “to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.” Waiting does not isolate her; it positions her to strengthen others. Hope, when patiently held, becomes contagious.
This Gospel quietly affirms something essential: fruitfulness is not measured by visibility or productivity. Anna’s life may have seemed hidden, repetitive, even forgotten by the world—but heaven was watching. God wastes nothing offered in faith.
The final verses return us to ordinary family life. After the moment of revelation, Mary and Joseph go home. Jesus grows. Wisdom deepens. Favor rests. God’s greatest work unfolds not only in moments of recognition, but in long seasons of quiet formation.
This speaks directly to the domestic church. Parents often wonder if their prayers, sacrifices, and consistency matter. Anna assures us they do. Faithfulness lived over time becomes a wellspring of blessing for generations we may never see.
We parents are called to Anna’s posture—to remain faithful when results feel delayed, to give thanks before outcomes are clear, and to speak hope into the lives of others from a place of prayer. Pray over your children by name. Trust that God is forming them steadily, quietly, and with purpose.
“The presentation of Jesus in the temple shows him to be the firstborn Son who belongs to the Lord… Jesus is recognized as the long-expected Messiah, the ‘light to the nations’ and the ‘glory of Israel.’” (CCC 529)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where is God inviting me to remain faithful without needing immediate results?
In My Home: How can our family grow in steady prayer and gratitude, even in ordinary routines?
In My World: Who might God be asking me to encourage through a word of hope rooted in faith?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one way you have seen God’s quiet faithfulness at work in your life or family.
Then, one by one, pray over each person by name, asking for an outpouring of grace to know God’s love personally, freedom from the whispers and lies of the Enemy, strength to overcome temptation, and joy in living the Gospel concretely each day.
Daily Challenge:
Offer one hidden act of faithfulness today—done without recognition—as an act of trust and thanksgiving to God.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
