GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I desire your heart, not hollow gestures—let My word shape your love, your obedience, and your life.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Mark 7:1-13
When the Pharisees with some scribes who had come from Jerusalem
gathered around Jesus,
they observed that some of his disciples ate their meals
with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands.
(For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews,
do not eat without carefully washing their hands,
keeping the tradition of the elders.
And on coming from the marketplace
they do not eat without purifying themselves.
And there are many other things that they have traditionally observed,
the purification of cups and jugs and kettles and beds.)
So the Pharisees and scribes questioned him,
“Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders
but instead eat a meal with unclean hands?”
He responded,
“Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites,
as it is written:
This people honors me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me;
In vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines human precepts.
You disregard God’s commandment but cling to human tradition.”
He went on to say,
“How well you have set aside the commandment of God
in order to uphold your tradition!
For Moses said,
Honor your father and your mother,
and Whoever curses father or mother shall die.
Yet you say,
‘If someone says to father or mother,
“Any support you might have had from me is qorban”’
(meaning, dedicated to God),
you allow him to do nothing more for his father or mother.
You nullify the word of God
in favor of your tradition that you have handed on.
And you do many such things.”

GOING DEEPER
God’s truth is never meant to decorate our lives but to govern them.
Jesus exposes a dangerous spiritual counterfeit: outward devotion masking inward resistance. The Pharisees are not irreligious; they are meticulous. Yet their practices have quietly replaced obedience with appearance, reverence with control, and love with loopholes.
The issue is not tradition itself. The problem is which word holds authority. Jesus quotes Isaiah to reveal the fracture: lips speak piety while hearts remain untouched. In Greek, the word for hypocrisy points to acting behind a mask—religion performed without surrender.
The example of qorban is devastating. What was consecrated to God was used as an excuse to avoid caring for one’s parents. Religious language becomes a shield against responsibility. The command to honor father and mother is not abolished—but effectively erased.
This Gospel lands squarely in the home. The domestic church can quietly drift into routines that look faithful while avoiding costly love, forgiveness, or presence. Children are perceptive. They know when prayer is real and when it is rehearsed.
The Memorial of St. Scholastica sharpens the contrast. Her holiness was not loud or legalistic. She sought God with an undivided heart, forming a life—and a community—where love of God overflowed into love of others. Her faith was lived, not staged.
Faith does not need polish—it needs obedience. When God’s word governs the home, traditions become life-giving channels rather than hollow forms.
Therefore, build saint-forming homes by submitting daily life to God’s word, pray over your children by name with hearts aligned to truth, and act decisively in the power of the Holy Spirit, refusing any habit, excuse, or routine that replaces love with performance.
“The moral life has its source in faith and is nourished by faith.” (CCC 1814)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where might I be honoring God with words while resisting Him in action?
In My Home: Are our family habits forming hearts of obedience or merely maintaining appearances?
In My World: How can I witness to authentic faith through concrete acts of love and responsibility?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one way you can better live God’s word at home this week.
Then pray together aloud. As parents, place a hand on each person and pray over them by name, asking that they know God’s love personally, be freed from every lie of the Enemy, be strengthened to overcome temptation, and be filled with joy to live the Gospel concretely and faithfully.
Daily Challenge: Identify one family routine today and intentionally align it more closely with God’s command to love.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
