GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Humble yourself before Me—serve, and I will exalt you in My time.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 23:1-12
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying,
"The scribes and the Pharisees
have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.
Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
but do not follow their example.
For they preach but they do not practice.
They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry
and lay them on people's shoulders,
but they will not lift a finger to move them.
All their works are performed to be seen.
They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues,
greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.'
As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.'
You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.
Call no one on earth your father;
you have but one Father in heaven.
Do not be called 'Master';
you have but one master, the Christ.
The greatest among you must be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled;
but whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
True authority is measured by service, not status.
Jesus does not reject authority. He acknowledges it. The scribes and Pharisees “sit on the chair of Moses.” They occupy a legitimate seat. But then He exposes the fracture that corrodes leadership from within: they speak truth, but they do not live it.
And we know that fracture. We have felt it in others — and if we are honest, we have felt it in ourselves. Saying what is right. Expecting what is right. Correcting what is wrong. Yet quietly excusing ourselves.
The issue is not structure; it is authenticity. They widen their phylacteries — enlarging visible symbols of devotion. What was meant to remind them of God’s Word becomes religious theater. External signs grow larger while interior surrender grows smaller.
They love titles. Rabbi. Father. Master. Recognition feels stabilizing. Being noticed feels validating. Honor feels like oxygen. But Jesus dismantles the ladder. “You have one Teacher… one Father… one Master.” Authority is not self-generated. It is received. And it must resemble the One who gives it.
In that world, honor was currency. In ours, it still is — just digitized. Titles, followers, reputation, influence. But in the Kingdom, greatness descends. It does not climb. It kneels.
This lands squarely in the domestic church. Parenting is the most immediate school of authority. And here is the danger: authority can drift from formation into control. From guidance into dominance. Children instinctively detect the difference. They know whether correction is rooted in love or ego.
Rules without relationship suffocate. Authority without humility hardens hearts.
But when a father apologizes. When a mother admits weakness. When correction is paired with tenderness — something sacred happens. Trust grows. Imitation becomes possible.
Humility is not passivity. It is strength under truth. It is knowing that leadership is stewardship. To serve is not to shrink. It is to resemble Christ.
The soul that chases elevation becomes brittle. The soul that bends in service becomes luminous.
Build saint-forming homes by living what you teach before you demand it of others, pray over your children by name that their hearts are guarded from pride and formed in courageous humility, and act boldly in the power of the Holy Spirit — because the authority you exercise today is shaping the kind of leaders your children will become tomorrow.
“The Word became flesh to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (CCC 608)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where might pride be shaping my desire for recognition?
In My Home: Do my actions reflect the values I ask others to live?
In My World: How can I lead more through service than through status?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one way you can serve someone else this week.
Then pray together aloud. As parents, place a hand on each person and pray over them by name, asking that they know God’s love personally, be freed from the Enemy’s lies about status and superiority, be strengthened to overcome pride, and be filled with a joyful desire to serve others in Christ.
Daily Challenge: Perform one intentional act of quiet service for someone in your home today.

In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.

Thanks, Greg. As always, you get right to the heart of the matter. Jesus is clear that he didn't come to repeal authority, but that those who speak it and don't live it are hypocrites. So sad that so many, even Catholics, hold to the notion that Jesus actually taught us that "Leviticus doesn't apply anymore," and such. So much politics in the Church these days. Is it all because of Dobbs, and Trump, that people have gone crazy hating on each other?
