GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You are not forgotten in your hidden faithfulness. Your quiet obedience moves heaven more than you know.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 17:7–10
Jesus said to the Apostles:
“Who among you would say to your servant
who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field,
‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’?
Would he not rather say to him,
‘Prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.
You may eat and drink when I am finished’?
Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
So should it be with you.
When you have done all you have been commanded, say,
‘We are unprofitable servants;
we have done what we were obliged to do.’”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
True greatness hides behind humility.
Today’s Gospel can sting our modern ears. Jesus seems to strip away the affirmation we crave. “When you have done all you were commanded, say: We are unprofitable servants.” Isn’t this harsh? Isn’t God supposed to affirm our effort?
But what Jesus reveals is a deeper freedom—the joy of serving without needing to be seen. The Greek word achreioi (translated “unprofitable”) can also mean “unworthy” or “not deserving pay.” The point is not that we are worthless, but that love cannot be purchased. Faithful obedience is not transactional; it’s relational. It’s love expressed in duty—duty done not to earn affection, but because affection already burns in the heart.
Saint Martin of Tours, whose memorial we celebrate today, lived this truth vividly. As a Roman soldier, he famously cut his cloak in half to clothe a beggar. That night he saw Christ wearing the same cloak in a dream, saying, “Martin, still a catechumen, has clothed me with this garment.” Martin’s greatness was not in fame or position, but in his readiness to love without applause.
Our culture measures worth by visibility and reward. Jesus teaches that real faith thrives in obscurity—when no one notices but the Father. Parents who rise in the night for sick children, caregivers who labor unseen, workers who act with integrity when no one’s watching—these are the saints of the hidden kingdom.
Families are the training ground for such love. When we serve without complaint, when we forgive without fanfare, we participate in Christ’s humility. Every unnoticed act becomes a prayer: Lord, I’m Yours. This is my love song to You.
“The way of perfection passes by way of the Cross. There is no holiness without renunciation and spiritual battle.” (CCC 2015)

FAMILY LIVE IT
Gather for a short prayer tonight. Name one person in your home who served quietly today and thank God for them. Then pray aloud together:
Lord Jesus, make our hearts humble like Yours. Teach us to serve without seeking praise, to love without counting the cost, and to rejoice in doing Your will. May our home be filled with Your joy and peace.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
