GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
Still waiting on God? Imagine what He has waiting for you.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 12:35-38
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.
Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,
have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
And should he come in the second or third watch
and find them prepared in this way,
blessed are those servants.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
An attentive heart discovers that the Lord it waits to serve comes bearing a love it could never earn.
Where have you grown tired of waiting—and what has that weariness done to your openness to God?
The lamps are burning, the house is quiet, and the servants are listening. Perhaps hours have passed. Jesus includes the possibility of a late arrival, when maintaining readiness would become difficult. We know those hours in another form: the prayer that seems unanswered, the relationship that remains strained, the faithful effort that produces little visible change. We keep going, but our hearts can gradually stop expecting to encounter Him.
Then the story takes an extraordinary turn. The returning master assumes the servant’s role and attends to those who have been waiting. Notice the repeated action: the servants prepare themselves for service, and then the master prepares himself to serve them. Their vigilance opens into an astonishing welcome. Jesus reveals a generosity that exceeds the ordinary relationship between duty and reward.
That reversal reaches into our assumptions about God. We may approach Him primarily as the One whose expectations we must fulfill, while carrying our exhaustion and disappointment at a distance. Yet the Lord who calls us to faithfulness also desires to give Himself to us. We were made for this communion. Through Christ, we are invited to share God’s life, learning to receive His love within the responsibilities that so often leave us feeling alone.
Waiting faithfully includes making ourselves available to that gift. A few quiet minutes with the Gospel, an honest acknowledgment of discouragement, and a deliberate return to prayer can reopen our attention. Today’s Saint Paul of the Cross encouraged communities rooted in prayer and remembrance of Christ’s Passion. His example directs our gaze toward the love already revealed in Jesus’ self-offering. At the Eucharist, the crucified and risen Lord continues to give Himself to His people. vatican.va
For us as parents, the home is the domestic church, where attentiveness becomes practical. We can be physically present while inwardly unavailable, rehearsing tomorrow’s problems as a child tries to speak. We can complete every task and scarcely notice our spouse. Vigilance begins with recovering the capacity to welcome: pausing before answering, receiving a request without an automatic sigh, recognizing an opportunity to love. Keep the lamp lit; love may arrive as an interruption.
Build saint-forming homes by practicing a readiness that makes room for God and one another; pray over your spouse and children by name, asking for patient hearts that remain open through long seasons of waiting; act in the power of the Holy Spirit by setting aside one distraction and responding generously to the person before you.
“In positive terms, the battle against the possessive and dominating self requires vigilance, sobriety of heart.” (CCC 2730)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where has disappointment made me less willing to expect or receive God’s love?
In My Home: When someone approaches me, what helps or prevents me from being truly available?
In My World: Whose need might I notice today if I loosened my grip on my own agenda?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to share an experience of being warmly welcomed. Name one small thing that made that welcome meaningful.
Then pray over each person by name: “Lord Jesus, help [Name] personally know the tenderness of Your love. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that their waiting is wasted or that You have forgotten them. Strengthen them to overcome temptation, especially impatience, discouragement, and indifference. Give them joyful attentiveness to Your presence and a willing response to each opportunity to live Your Gospel. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Welcome the next person who asks for your attention by putting down your phone and listening fully.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
