INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:12-16
Jesus went up to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew,
Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

GOING DEEPER
Before Jesus called them to mission, He called them to prayer.
The night before choosing His Apostles, Jesus prayed. Not for minutes, not for an hour, but all night. The Greek word proseuchomai used here emphasizes intimacy and communion—a dialogue of hearts, not a list of requests. The Son speaks with the Father, not about what to do, but about whom to entrust with His mission. In the silence of that mountain, every name was already known—Peter’s boldness, John’s tenderness, Thomas’s doubt, Judas’s betrayal. Still, Jesus calls them.
This is the breathtaking scandal of grace: God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called. Twelve ordinary men—imperfect, diverse, even divided—become the foundation of His Church. Simon the Zealot, a revolutionary, sits beside Matthew the tax collector, a collaborator with Rome. Humanly impossible. Divinely intentional. In their unity, the world glimpses the power of divine love to reconcile enemies and transform hearts.
And so it is in our homes. God has handpicked the people in your family not for ease, but for holiness. He has woven together differences—personalities, wounds, and weaknesses—not to frustrate you but to forge you. Your home is your mountain of prayer, your training ground for mission.
Parents, like Christ, spend your nights “in prayer to God”—lifting by name those entrusted to you. Ask the Lord to reveal who each one is in His eyes and how He’s calling you to love them into their purpose. Then pray over them by name, inviting the Holy Spirit to set them apart for His work in the world.
“The Lord Jesus personally calls each one by name. No one is excluded from His call to follow and bear fruit.” (CCC 858)

Divine Choosing: How does it change your perspective to know that God has chosen you personally for His mission?
Prayerful Discernment: What would it look like to follow Jesus’ example of praying before major decisions or relationships?
Family Mission: How can your family become more intentional about discovering and living the mission God has entrusted to you together?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one way you feel God has gifted or called you—whether through compassion, creativity, courage, or service. Then affirm one another by naming the gifts you see in each other.
Then pray over one another by name: Lord Jesus, You chose [Name] before the world began. Strengthen [Name] in their mission. Let [Name] know their worth and calling, and unite our family in Your love and purpose.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
