GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I welcome you near Me; refuse the lie that you must earn your place through anxious striving, and receive the better part that will not be taken from you.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION

GOING DEEPER
Jesus draws our scattered hearts into the communion from which every loving work receives its life.
When you finally stop doing, what rises within you: peace in being loved, or uneasiness that you are no longer proving your worth?
Martha has welcomed Jesus into her home, yet somewhere amid the preparations she begins to experience herself as abandoned. We recognize that movement. We can begin a day with prayer and spend the remaining hours feeling that everything rests upon us. We believe God cares, but His care seems distant from the dishes, deadlines, and difficult conversations. Jesus is close enough to hear Martha’s distress. His tender repetition of her name invites her to recognize the Person already present within the work that has overwhelmed her.
Luke’s description of Martha carries a revealing nuance: the Greek word periespato conveys being drawn away or distracted. Her serving has begun to pull her attention from the One she is serving. Mary’s place at His feet, meanwhile, is the posture of a disciple receiving instruction. Jesus affirms her place there. This household scene reaches into a profound human struggle: we can become so occupied with what we must accomplish that we lose touch with the relationship that gives our actions their meaning.
We were created for more than occasional contact with God between stretches of self-reliance. Made in His image and called through Christ to share His divine life, we are meant to receive our existence as a gift and live in responsive love. That communion grows through a lifetime of returning, including days when prayer feels dry and attention wanders. Its reality does not depend upon a consoling feeling. Yet when we habitually neglect it, something within us languishes: service grows brittle, comparison takes hold, and resentment begins keeping score. A crowded calendar cannot nourish a neglected communion.
The home is the domestic church, and Martha’s distress can sound very familiar there. We prepare meals while silently rehearsing how little our spouse appreciates us. We organize our children’s lives while becoming impatient with their need for our attention. Sometimes the workload really is unfair and needs an honest conversation. As parents, we can address that need while also bringing our wounded hearts to Jesus. A brief inward turning toward Him can help us ask clearly for assistance, listen without accusation, and remember that the people we serve are persons to love.
The sacraments sustain this life of belonging: in Baptism we are brought into Christ’s life; in the Eucharist He gives Himself to us; in Reconciliation He restores and heals our communion with Him. Prayer helps us become attentive to the grace we have received and responsive to it in ordinary life. Today’s remembrance of Saint Bruno invites us to treasure silence as room for such attention. We may have a noisy kitchen rather than a quiet cell, but we can still set down the phone, open the Gospel, and give Jesus time in which our hearts are available to Him.
Build saint-forming homes where time with God is protected and loving service grows from a heart attentive to Him. Pray over your spouse and children by name, asking Jesus to gather their anxieties into His care. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit: establish a daily moment of shared listening, bring your responsibilities into prayer, and carry the peace of belonging to Christ into the next task.
“Contemplative prayer is hearing the Word of God.” (CCC 2716)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What does my discomfort with stillness reveal about where I seek my security and worth?
In My Home: How might our family’s pace change if listening to Jesus became a protected part of our day?
In My World: Where has my desire to be useful made me less available to the person directly before me?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name one concern occupying their thoughts, then spend one quiet minute offering those concerns to Jesus.
Take turns praying over each person by name: “Jesus, let [name] know personally that Your love reaches them before any achievement. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that they are forgotten, inadequate, or valuable only when productive. Strengthen them to overcome the temptation to compare, complain, or escape into distraction. Give them joyful attentiveness to Your voice and help them complete one ordinary responsibility with patience and love. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Give Jesus three uninterrupted minutes before reaching for your phone tomorrow morning.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
