GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You are not defined by what you do, but by Who delights in you. My Presence is your peace.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The heart of faith is not found in doing for God, but in being with Him.
Martha welcomes Jesus into her home—the same Jesus who healed the sick, raised the dead, multiplied loaves. Yet in the presence of the Almighty, she becomes consumed by the tyranny of tasks. Her words are revealing: “Lord, do you not care?” Beneath her busyness is a wound many of us know too well—the whisper that God sees our work but not our hearts.
Mary, by contrast, sits at His feet. In the rabbinic world of first-century Judea, this posture was the sign of a disciple—a bold act for a woman. She chooses to receive rather than perform, to be filled before pouring out. The Greek word for “listening” (akouō) implies attentive obedience, a heart ready to be shaped.
Here is the piercing truth: activity without intimacy breeds anxiety. When love becomes duty without delight, faith becomes heavy. Jesus does not rebuke Martha’s service—He reorders it. Before mission must come communion. Before labor, listening.
In our homes, this tension is constant. Parents are often “burdened with much serving”—school runs, laundry, meals, bills, emotional triage. We pray with one eye on the clock, speak with one ear on the phone. And yet, Christ enters the home—not to add to the to-do list, but to call us back to stillness. The “better part” is not neglect of duty, but the interior order that flows from relationship.
The domestic church is sustained by prayerful presence, not perpetual motion. A home that prays together does not stop working—it works from a place of peace. Families must learn again the sacred art of sitting at His feet—lingering in silence, listening, loving without agenda.
Parents, make time today to stop, even briefly, before the Lord—together or alone. Then pray over your children by name, asking that they may never confuse their worth with productivity, but find joy in the gaze of a God who delights to dwell in their midst.
“Contemplation is a gaze of faith, fixed on Jesus. ‘I look at Him and He looks at me’: this is what a humble believer said to his holy Cure. This focus on Jesus is a renunciation of self.” (CCC 2715)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Anxious or Abiding: Where do anxiety and distraction crowd out your time at the feet of Jesus?
Better Part: What concrete step can you take today to make room for stillness and prayer in your home?
Presence over Performance: How can your family learn to delight more in God’s presence than in accomplishing tasks?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one area of family life that feels most “anxious or worried.”
After sharing, each family member should pray over another by name: Lord Jesus, pour out Your grace so that [Name] may know Your deep love personally. Free [Name] from the lie that they must earn Your affection. Strengthen [Name] to rest in Your presence and listen with joy, knowing You delight in them.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
