GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You are not left standing alone at the Cross. Behold: I give you a mother, and I give you a home.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 19:25-27
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
From the Cross, Jesus does not only die for you. He gives you a family.
Beloved, have you been trying to stand near His suffering without receiving the mother—and the belonging—He is still offering?
John does not rush past the women. They are standing there. Not explaining the Cross. Not fixing it. Standing. And Jesus sees them. Even in agony, He is not only the Victim. He is still the Bridegroom arranging a household.
He calls her “Woman.” That word is older than this hill. It is the name from Genesis—the first woman standing at the beginning of a wounded world. Here, at the hour of a new creation, the new Adam speaks to the new Eve. Then He does what love does when it cannot stay: He binds the ones He loves to one another. “Behold, your son.” “Behold, your mother.” The beloved disciple is never named because the place is left open. It is John’s place. It is the Church’s place. It is yours.
And the Gospel ends in a home: “from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” The Greek is tender and concrete—eis ta idia—into what was his own. Not a shrine. A life. Mary is not an idea to admire from the foot of the Cross. She is a gift to be received under your roof.
On this Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, do not be afraid of her grief. Her sorrow is not separate from His love. She remains when others flee. She receives when others calculate. She teaches a family how to stay—and how to make room.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by taking someone “into your home” today: with honor, with room, with the tenderness of the Cross.
“Mary’s role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from it. ‘This union of the mother with the Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ’s virginal conception up to his death’; it is made manifest above all at the hour of his Passion.” (CCC 964)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Have I received Mary as a gift from the Cross, or kept her at a respectful distance?
In My Home: Whom do we need to behold—and take in—as family, not as a problem to manage?
In My World: Where is Jesus asking me to stand with someone who is suffering, and then make a place for them?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Share one way you can “take someone into your home” this week—by welcome, prayer, or presence. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
Pray one Hail Mary slowly today, and ask her to stand with your family at whatever cross you are near.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
