INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:12-19
Jesus departed to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground.
A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people
from all Judea and Jerusalem
and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon
came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;
and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him
because power came forth from him and healed them all.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Chosen and Sent
Before choosing His Apostles, Jesus spends the whole night in prayer. The Greek emphasizes proseuchē—intimate communion with the Father. This was not strategy or human calculation; it was discernment born of relationship. The Twelve were not the most qualified by worldly standards. Fishermen, tax collectors, zealots—ordinary men with flaws and failures. Yet they were chosen, named, and sent.
Notice what follows. Jesus descends from the mountain with His chosen Twelve and meets the crowds on level ground. The symbolism is striking: prayer leads to mission, intimacy with the Father flows into solidarity with the people. The mountain of communion becomes the plain of encounter.
For His first-century listeners, the act of naming was powerful. To give a name was to confer identity and mission. Jesus doesn’t just gather followers; He shapes apostles. The same is true for us. In baptism, Christ has named us, set us apart, and poured out His Spirit to send us forth.
Parents, this is where the Gospel touches home. Our mission begins in prayer. If we want to form children into disciples, we must first be men and women of the mountain—parents who spend time with the Father. Then, like Jesus, we come down onto the level ground of daily family life: dishes, homework, conflicts, conversations. It is there that Christ’s healing power flows, and it flows first through us.
Every family has its “unclean spirits”: lies of comparison, discouragement, unforgiveness, distraction. But Jesus’ power still comes forth. Everyone who touched Him was healed. What if our homes became places where children knew they could always “touch” Christ—through our prayers, our listening, our forgiveness, our love? What if we prayed over them by name daily, speaking identity and mission into their hearts?
Christ names, Christ heals, Christ sends. The question is whether we will stay on the mountain with Him, descend with Him into our homes, and allow His power to flow through us.
“From the beginning Jesus associated his disciples with his own life, revealed the mystery of the Kingdom to them, and gave them a share in his mission, joy, and sufferings” (CCC 787).
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Prayer First: Where do I need to carve out more space for prayer before making decisions for myself or my family?
Identity Named: How can I help my spouse and children know the unique mission God has given them?
Power Released: What concrete step can I take to let Christ’s healing power flow more fully in our home?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, each person share one way they want to be more open to God’s call in their life.
Then pray over each person by name:
“Lord Jesus, You have called [Name] and named them as Your own. Silence every lie of the Enemy and fill them with Your Spirit. Heal their wounds, strengthen their mission, and send them forth with Your power to bring light and love to the world.”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
