INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 15:21-28
At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out,
“Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David!
My daughter is tormented by a demon.”
But he did not say a word in answer to her.
His disciples came and asked him,
“Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.”
He said in reply,
“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.”
He said in reply,
“It is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.”
She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps
that fall from the table of their masters.”
Then Jesus said to her in reply,
“O woman, great is your faith!
Let it be done for you as you wish.”
And her daughter was healed from that hour.

GOING DEEPER
Great faith keeps coming to Jesus with the needs of those we love, even when the answer seems delayed.
For whom are we being called to keep praying with greater trust, persistence, and love?
This woman begins by crying out not for herself, but for her daughter. She is carrying a suffering she cannot fix. Parents and grandparents know that ache: the child who is anxious, wandering, wounded, angry, addicted, distant from faith, or caught in a struggle beyond our power. Love will not let her simply walk away.
Her encounter with Jesus is difficult because His response initially feels like silence, then distance. Yet the woman does not interpret the silence as rejection. She draws nearer. Her prayer becomes wonderfully simple: “Lord, help me.” When life has stripped away our eloquence, those three words are enough to open the heart before God.
Matthew deliberately calls her a “Canaanite,” an ancient name that would have evoked Israel’s long history of division and hostility. She is an outsider by every expectation, yet she recognizes Jesus as “Lord” and “Son of David.” Her faith sees what many insiders miss: God’s mercy cannot be contained by the boundaries people draw.
Her reply about the scraps from the table is not desperation without dignity; it is humility united to unshakable confidence in the abundance of Christ. She knows that even the smallest overflow of His mercy is more powerful than the darkness tormenting her child. A crumb from Jesus outweighs every chain of the Enemy.
This is the work of the domestic church: interceding, persevering, and refusing to surrender our loved ones to despair. We may not be able to control another person’s choices, heal every wound, or force a breakthrough. But we can bring their names before Jesus again and again. Persistent prayer is not pestering God; it is love refusing to lose hope.
The Enemy whispers, “Nothing is changing,” “Your prayer is useless,” or “It is too late.” The Canaanite woman answers every lie with her presence at the feet of Christ. Faith does not always receive the answer on our timetable, but it always places us before the One whose mercy never runs dry.
Keep bringing your loved ones to Jesus. Build saint-forming homes, pray over your children by name, and act in the power of the Holy Spirit so that your family may live with the bold, humble, persevering faith that opens every need to the mercy of God.
“Just as Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, so he teaches us filial boldness: ‘Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.’ Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt: ‘all things are possible to him who believes.’ Jesus is as saddened by the ‘lack of faith’ of his own neighbors and the ‘little faith’ of his own disciples as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman.” (CCC, 2610)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What unanswered prayer has tempted me toward discouragement rather than deeper trust?
In My Home: Whose need does our family need to bring more faithfully and specifically before Jesus?
In My World: How can I accompany someone who is carrying a burden for a child or loved one?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name someone for whom they want to pray with special faith this week.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask the Father to let them know personally His faithful love, to free them from every lie of the Enemy, to strengthen them against temptation, and to make them joyful witnesses of the Gospel. Bring before Jesus by name the people your family is carrying in prayer, and ask the Holy Spirit for persevering confidence in God’s mercy.
Daily Challenge: Set an alarm today to pause for one minute and pray by name for a loved one who needs Jesus’ healing and help.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
