Your small offering becomes abundant in My hands.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 15:29–37
At that time:
Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee,
went up on the mountain, and sat down there.
Great crowds came to him,
having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute,
and many others.
They placed them at his feet, and he cured them.
The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking,
the deformed made whole,
the lame walking,
and the blind able to see,
and they glorified the God of Israel.
Jesus summoned his disciples and said,
“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,
for they have been with me now for three days
and have nothing to eat.
I do not want to send them away hungry,
for fear they may collapse on the way.”
The disciples said to him,
“Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place
to satisfy such a crowd?”
Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?”
“Seven,” they replied, “and a few fish.”
He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.
Then he took the seven loaves and the fish,
gave thanks, broke the loaves,
and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds.
They all ate and were satisfied.
They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets full.

GOING DEEPER
Jesus Multiplies What We Surrender
Matthew tells us that Jesus’ heart is moved with pity—the Greek word splanchnizomai, referring to a deep, visceral compassion, the kind that rises from the depths of one’s being. This is not distant sympathy. This is the love of God aching to provide, to heal, to feed, to restore. Families need this reminder: Jesus sees your hunger—spiritual, emotional, relational—and His heart is moved for you.
The disciples’ objection is painfully familiar: “Where could we ever get enough…?” It’s the cry of parents overwhelmed, spouses stretched thin, families unsure how to meet the needs before them. We often assume that Jesus asks for what we don’t have. But He asks only for what is already in our hands. “How many loaves do you have?” is not a question of quantity—it’s an invitation to surrender.
Here lies the Gospel paradox:
What we hold back remains small.
What we give to Jesus becomes abundance.
Grace multiplies only what is placed in His hands.
Today’s memorial of Saint Francis Xavier offers a powerful mirror. He brought the Gospel across continents with almost nothing—no vast resources, no strategic infrastructure, no guarantees. What he did have was a heart set on fire and a willingness to place his whole life in Jesus’ hands. The result? One of the greatest missionary movements in Church history. Seven loaves, multiplied across the world.
In our homes, the multiplication happens in quieter ways—patience multiplied in the face of exhaustion, forgiveness multiplied in the middle of conflict, hope multiplied in seasons of difficulty. The domestic church becomes a place of miracles when we bring Jesus our “few loaves”: the minutes we can offer, the kindness we can give, the prayer we manage in weakness.
Jesus wants to feed your home—your marriage, your children, your relationships—with more than enough grace. When we surrender what little we have, He satisfies every hunger. And there are always baskets left over, because divine generosity never stops at “just enough.”
Parents, surrender your loaves. Offer your limitations, fears, and smallness to Jesus. Pray over your spouse and children by name that the Holy Spirit multiply your love, silence the Enemy’s lies of insufficiency, strengthen each person where they are most weary, and fill your home with the abundance only Christ can give.
“God gives us the grace to collaborate in the salvation of others.” (CCC 2008)
