GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I come into your home, I lift you up, and I call you away with Me to pray so that My life may flow through you to others.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Mark 1:29–39
On leaving the synagogue
Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.
They immediately told him about her.
He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.
Then the fever left her and she waited on them.
When it was evening, after sunset,
they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.
The whole town was gathered at the door.
He cured many who were sick with various diseases,
and he drove out many demons,
not permitting them to speak because they knew him.
Rising very early before dawn,
he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
Simon and those who were with him pursued him
and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages
that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come.”
So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons
throughout the whole of Galilee.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Jesus heals in the home, then withdraws to prayer so the mission does not consume the man.
Mark moves us immediately from synagogue to household. The first miracle after public worship happens in a home. Simon’s mother-in-law is not healed on a stage or in a crowd, but in the intimacy of daily life. Jesus grasps her hand—a gesture of closeness and authority—and lifts her up. The Gospel uses language that echoes resurrection. Healing restores her not only to health, but to vocation.
Her response is simple and revealing: she waits on them. This is not servitude born of obligation, but service flowing from restoration. When Christ heals, the fruit is love expressed in action. Grace received becomes grace given.
By evening, the quiet household has become a threshold of mercy. The whole town gathers at the door. Illness, affliction, and spiritual bondage all press toward Jesus. Yet even amid power and success, He does not allow the demons to speak. Recognition without obedience is not discipleship. Jesus will not let truth be proclaimed by voices that refuse His lordship.
Then comes the startling turn. While everyone is looking for Him, Jesus slips away. Very early, before dawn, He goes to a deserted place to pray. The Greek suggests intentional withdrawal—Jesus guards His communion with the Father. Even the Son of God does not allow ministry to eclipse intimacy.
This pattern is vital for our homes. We parents pour ourselves out—into work, children, service, and even good church activity. But without deliberate withdrawal to prayer, zeal slowly replaces obedience. The domestic church must be both a place of healing and a place of quiet encounter with God.
Here is the quiet wisdom of the Gospel: intimacy with the Father is what keeps mission from becoming noise. Prayer is not an escape from responsibility; it is what orders responsibility rightly.
Build homes where Christ is welcomed, where healing leads to service, and where prayer is protected. Pray over your children by name. Withdraw daily with Jesus so your family may be sent in the power of the Holy Spirit.
The signs worked by Jesus attest that the Father has sent him. They invite belief in him. To those who turn to him in faith, he grants what they ask. So miracles strengthen faith in the One who does his Father’s works; they bear witness that he is the Son of God. But his miracles can also be occasions for “offense”; they are not intended to satisfy people’s curiosity or desire for magic. Despite his evident miracles some people reject him; he is even accused of acting by the power of demons. (CCC 548)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where do I need Jesus to lift me up so I can love more freely?
In My Home: How intentionally is prayer protected in our household rhythm?
In My World: Where is God calling me to serve from a place of prayer rather than pressure?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one way Jesus has cared for or strengthened each person recently.
Pray aloud together, intentionally praying over each person by name, thanking Jesus for His healing presence, asking Him to free each heart from fatigue or fear, and inviting the Holy Spirit to order your family’s life around prayer, service, and peace.
Daily Challenge: Choose one specific moment today to withdraw briefly in silence with Jesus before acting or deciding.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
